reading these arguments for and against different DAW's makes me laugh a bit, (not allot...just a bit)
most producers i think will combine DAW's so fuck it.
doesnt matter any way, i use logic not saying i make sick beats or anything, but i used to use reason, i was deffinately limited. with logic there is so much you can use. also you can rewire reason through it!
anyway im off.

I don't need to taint my Ableton experience with any other DAW because it's soo win. Do we really need another 20 pages for all of you to realize the clear winner here? You can't be that dense!

Logic 9 + Battery 3. Is pretty much all I use on the lappy. (I do use a load of free vsts for different effects, but not for instruments).

Ableton 6 (i think) for live stuff.
I make music as Forsaken, you can DL all my unreleased (and a couple released) bits here.

I've recently had a mini revelation after fucking about with demos of several big name vsts and full versions of freeware vsts and a couple of paid for ones too for quite some time and that is that 99% of the time stock does the job just as well, if not better. I now use pretty much all ableton/reason stock plugins with only using alchemy and a few free processing effects from third parties.

WHAT DO YOU SAY TO THAT DUBSTEP FORUM!!!

Love this one. To be honest i think everyone should have something like cubase, pro tools, or logic, then stuff like reason ableton and all ther others throuch rewire, Im gonna en up using pro tools and rewire to reason, have record too and ableton for the mixing it has that i need to check out, i think im gonna use ableton for techno, house and hard dance tunes, and reason for dubstep,grime,dnb,hard4 ect. Im interested if anyone here does what im planning on doing, only got reason at moment but im deff gonna look into logic on mac or pro tools on pc.

Yes, you can rewire Reason easily. I use Reaper and either rewire Renoise or Reason with it depending on the situation.

I've heard that protools is mainly for editing. That it's no good for tracking/mixing/sequencing. And i see PT9HD in the store for mad $$ and these Avid bundles made special for PT... then I hear people use it "with Logic" or "with (insert other DAW)". i just don't get it. Why bother with any PT shit if it's just for editing... Can't you birng up an editor in Logic or w/e, as well as do all the other work?

Just wondering if anyone can enlighten me what's the deal with pro tools

Nothing.

Pro Tools back in the last millenium was one of the original digital systems available to purchase, so many studios had it.

But since at least 2005 Pro Tools has lost its edge because quite frankly, everything else can do pretty much the same thing.

I think if you're recording insane amounts of sources all at once, like full orchestra & choir, then with the tied in hardware it is meant to be rock solid. But very very very few 'electronic' producers will ever do this, so Pro Tools has little to offer over the competition.

Imo haha :)

Yeah, but with 9 they seem to be heading towards logic and cubase. I'm personally using the comp less and less for sound creation and manipulation, and instead am using it is a multitrack recorder, which is what protools is. So maybe this is going to be more attractive to me. I'd like to try it out, but 1000:1 an ilok or some other invasive bit of software is involved. I no like.

Hey what is the deal with sonar? Anyone rep it in this thread. If I can recall this thread was logic v. cubase. v. fruity v. reason v. ableton?

I'd really like a more audio competent daw, and I cannot deal with cubase. If you read their forums it is just complete jokes the shit those users put up with. Disaappearing windows man... the windows disappear and won't come back. Never mind workflow nips and tucks, this is like your mixer is gone fucker and it's not coming back! hahahah.

Anyway, any sonar heads? Kind of the dark horse in this daw war.

the new Sonar X1 Producer Edition looks pretty sick if I don't say so myself. Might have to hop back on the Sonar bandwagon once I got a new rig running.
