layering, but don't have all the layers start at the same point. I've made one which was very close, i layered a clap with some recordings of a plastic bag and paper.

From my personal custom drum library:

Nudging a load of claps, so they're staggered when they hit. I got a nice variation, but the texture is way off.

I have inside info and since I'm new round here I'm going to be nice and share it. He records himself stepping on tree branches. Serious. Field recording is great for stepping out of the mold.

U can use yer iPhone or whatever u have too. This doesn't need to be pro equipment. It's about texture and creativity, layering.

yeah was gonna say it sounds like some rogue sound rather than an actual clap. although you could probably layer a clap in there somewhere if you felt it was necessary

I think that the key to make eskmo clap is layer a nice sounding clap with some recorded weird stuff. Take a mic, and record something. Once i recorded squashing walnut and layered it with clap. It sounded great.

Check the vid - dirt cheap and sounds pretty good.

get a Zoom H2, or an H1

I played with Eskmo in chicago...

the guy has all kinds of gadgets and gizmos on stage with him (Ipad mixing program thingy too)

he looked around the club and found a snow shovel and used it on stage

he's genius with that stuff

Amon Tobin, Eskmo, Chris Clark. They all have that luscious mid frequencies going on in their snares... that and the Noisia Reese are my two holy grails.

Does your h1 have a big pink wig?
Fortunately I'm into photography so phonography isn't too far off. I can use my tripods and shit. I always think I want to capture buskers. well now I can.
Being in the middle of a busy noisy subway station makes it even cooler.
