DMZ
..I'm sure this has been answered before.. but after searching 15 pages deep I decided to just ask the forum.
Why don't they press their old releases? In my search for the answer I saw that someone said DMZ002 went for £400..
wtf? they are missing out on A LOT of money.
sorry if this topic has already been beaten to shit(which it probably has)

Re: DMZ
i'm basically new to the forum...and it was me that said that $400 comment...it was on discogs...i think someone is trying to sell it for $200 or £200 on discogs now
but from what i gather...mala is a vinyl head and most likely doesn't want them re-pressed to add to the specialness of the vinyls that have been sold
i'm probably wrong tho

Re: DMZ
I can understand them not caring about the money but what about their fans.. there is obviously a high demand if there are releases selling for $200+..
as a supporter of there music I'm probably never going to get to play out a lot of their releases

I never get the "They owe it to the fans" argument. It's the artist's music. They can do what they wish with it. People go on like if someone doesn't release a tune they like they're being a dickhead.
Grow up.
Grow up.

I suck at making decisions but this is an easy one.. all the fans want those plates, they will not loose any money with having themMotorway to Roswell wrote:I never get the "They owe it to the fans" argument. pressed and if they don't want all the money they will actually gain from it, they could give it to Phrex to cut some more
dubs. All in all it's just going to make the world a better place.
( I don't even care that much about owning an original copy )

It would be nice to have them repressed, but if DMZ don't want to repress them, that's cool. I'm not gonna look down on them for it or moan about it.
Would you release a tune of yours you hated just because other people told you to? (I'm not saying DMZ hate their tunes, I'm just using this as an example)
I don't think fans and money are the only things that come into it.

I don't look down on them at all because of it.. I just wasn't sure the reasoning.
That is a tough question. I think if I knew people would genuinely appreciate it then I probably would.. but I've never been in that position so my answer isn't really valid.
I can understand.. but then what IS stopping them from? have they ever said anything?

Mala's said in interviews that he likes the idea that some tunes will never come out. They stay rattling around the walls of that venue where you remember hearing them. They occupy a place in time. He likes to keep them special.

Re: DMZ
so slanguage was right.. to keep them "special"..
I guess I can understand that..
but having only heard cheap rips I'd still love the chance to be able to rattle my own walls.
..maybe they'll surprise us!

I think someone mentioned that 001 and 002 were lost.. If so, thats a shame!Incognitorecords wrote:Some of you forget that masters and original .wav's can be lost!
BUT.. if the others are still available there are MANY fans who would be more than happy to add them to their collection..
just sayin
Re: DMZ
this part of the interview says it all really
Yeah I think so… I think… well, it’s weird because moments just happen because they’re happening all the time, but there’s certain circumstances and situations where we happen to remember a moment with more clarity. And for me – obviously I can only talk from my own experience – over the years, I’ve just had that etched-in-the-memory moment so many times going out and listening to music. So this brings us to the reason that I always cut dubplates – you know, people know this stuff, I’ve told this story so many times, but I genuinely value these moments, I genuinely value these things and I don’t want to abuse them just because you can make extra money out of it or extra fame or whatever. It’s fine if that’s other people’s intentions but it’s not mine, so the way I do my thing is just being true to myself and true to my love of these particular moments in time.”

no disrespect because what they do is great.. I just don't agree with that reasoning.
Re: DMZ
i can respect mala's decision as i'm an artist and i understand the importance in keeping your artistic integrity...really, its that important to you...i put my soul in my paintings and the way mala talks, he puts his soul into his music so i can understand his justifications for not wanting re-presses and only keeping some songs to 1 or 2 dubplates...as to add another analogy...it seems to mala that tunes that were intended to be dubplates and re-pressing songs would be the equivalent of an artist doing poster prints of his paintings...
HOWEVER....
from the angle of a fan...a way to keep this music alive 20 years down the line...would be the release these songs...that would be a definite way to hold on to those memories...like say, if he released 'eyez vip' i'd remember the exact place i first heard that regardless of whether i went to dmz again or played it in my bedroom....i guess its just extremely frustrating when you want to play some of the best music you've ever heard at your own discretion and you can't...it's not our job as fans to see it from the artists perspective

Shame my copy of DMZ002 is so worn, or I'd be selling it right now
