And the room is so small you have to tip the mattress up on it's side heh. I know how that is, it's reminding me of an apartment I lived in for about 6 months. I had to leave the windows open in the middle of winter because the equipment along with radiated heating that wasn't tenant adjustable would leave the room over 90 degrees.andregmp wrote:im loving the keyboards rockin out halfway in that drawer hahah its dope how people make the most use out of their space lol
Re: the classic "take a photo of your setup" thread

that's about the extent of my "studio". i'm building a wall shelf/desk that sits just above the height of the two tower speakers running all along the wall, where i'll be able to put my roland gaia when i get it

i got a lot of good use out of the oxygen8 and a compaq presario notebook with itouch midi suite for the ipod and ipad, and ran a decent portable rig when times were tough. fortunately, i had been given a nice pair of sennheiser phones, and managed to work without an amp or monitors for almost a year.andregmp wrote:

less is more?

Sometimes... YES! I really wouldn't want to trade in Ableton and my bank of VST for an old tracker but when I listen to demos I always think to myself that they just overdid it. It takes some balls to make a track out of only 5 or 6 sounds. Back in the day you were limited by tracks and sampling time and everything. 5 or 6 sounds might have been maxing the rig out ya know. I think it comes with time tho. You have to stop asking yourself "what am I missing".iamallthings wrote:i got a lot of good use out of the oxygen8 and a compaq presario notebook with itouch midi suite for the ipod and ipad, and ran a decent portable rig when times were tough. fortunately, i had been given a nice pair of sennheiser phones, and managed to work without an amp or monitors for almost a year.andregmp wrote:

Re: the classic "take a photo of your setup" thread
you're spot on. none of the gear shown here is mine. it belongs to various friends of mine that have dumped tens of thousands of dollars (and credit) into all of this gear that they hardly, if ever, use.LordBid wrote:thats a lot of shit, but who cares? im perfectly content with just my computer and a midi controller. Ive known gear whores like this that don;t make jack shit with their 9,000 dollars of equipment
what you see here is the culmination of almost four years of my tumbling down the rabbit hole of self-taught studio engineering, one thing after another, spending all of my time and effort on learning how everything works, and how to make it all work together, never allowing myself the time or opportunity to stop and produce anything meaningful.
well, i'm coming to the end of that phase in my life, and have committed myself to focus wholeheartedly on putting it all to use and making world-class music that will last beyond the temporary trends and impermanence of underground music, and to lend my experience and knowledge to artists that either don't have the time or lack the financial means to take advantage of the resources i've been so fortunate to have been given access to.
that having been said, i've always been of the mind that a truly inspired artist will make their voice heard, no matter the resources they find at their disposal. i strongly believe that it is not at all a matter of what you've got, but rather of how you use it.
my absolute ultimate influence in music recorded his most profound and purposed work on a four-track recorder in his sister's garage, with a broken guitar, a toy piano and a squeezebox.
