Trying to find a good drum sample pack for sounds like these? And just a good drum sample pack in general.

yeah! i think i prefer blawan over joe, but he is still sick, claptrap is a tune!

and im not entirely sure about how to get blawan sounding samples, but you could try taking some rimshot and sidestick samples and pitch them down. or alternatively go find some wood and hit it and record it haha, for uni i had to do some field recordings and stuff, and i recorded people going through some turnstiles and pitched it down a bit, im hoping they can be used as some interesting hits.

Yeah man I find Blawans stuff a bit deeper, good idea with the rim shots.
Just had to do my own project like that at uni, looked like a mentalist walking around in the dark throwing bricks around. Matches make some quite nice percussion sounds

Prince uses a similar sound, esp. in his older recordings. Research how that was done and you'll be on the trail... -e-

His drums are something else, any chance of getting him for a producer Q & A?

Man that is insane, cheers for showing me that. The only possible explanation for this is that he has an African tribe hidden in the basement.

His drums are something else, any chance of getting him for a producer Q & A?
This would be sick, although he'd definitily get arrested for admitting to the tribe.

But on on the topic of q&a's, is it just Youngsta and Benny so far? Anyone else in the pipeline? There was meant to be a James Blake one on another site, not sure when thats going up.

yeah i don't know about specifics, but i do know that native instruments' Battery has some really nice organic drum sounds. i was messing around at a friend's house who owns the program and some of the more ethnic kits (asia kit in particular) had some fantastic sounds. i would imagine he gets some of his drums from something like that rather than a sample pack.

i'm still not sure about Blawan. that Hessle release was amazing but Joe has been a lot more consistent. Randomer is another one with similar style beats

basically you need to get off your lazy ass and go record some shit.

bops sample packs would be a good start :) also any old garage pack would work. Theres a loopmasters underground house pack or something which sounds a lot like this sorta stuff

Rimshots are a nice idea, i think you could go deeper though. Sounds that aren't even drums, sampling old and new breaks. Maybe even thake some 808 kicks with the sustain, distort>resample>envelope etc. sometimes, i think that what sounds closest isn't always the best way to find out for yourself.
Do you say zerbaman? Or do you say zebraman?
