I'm sure there's more than just Rusko running Acid Pro. For some people that was one of the first things they grabbed most likely cause one day they were looking up music production software and it was one of the first things that popped up on the search engine. I did the same thing. For whatever reason, when I first decided I wanted to see what this stuff was like and went looking, Acid Pro was actually one of the first links in the search engine to pop up. I did download it and I tried to use it for like 2 days. Essentially coming to the conclusion that there had to be something better out there. I'm sure for some people it just worked, like many other programs did for other people.

The strange thing to me is the fact that Rusko actually went to school for this stuff, and I would have to assume that in a setting that was created specifically to teach people the aspects of production and what not, they would have something more formal to the music industry like Pro Tools or Logic. I can't seriously believe that there's studios running strictly on Acid Pro, and I definitely wouldn't believe that a school trying to teach people production would ever take the Acid Pro route considering the commercial standard is something like Pro Tools.

My opinion is that all the daws have different jobs (similar opinion to Deadmau5 and many others.) These are my four favorite programs and the reasons i love and hate them.

Reason
+Very stable, rarely crashes
+live performance tool
+best for synth design and general routing creativity
+Easy automation
+good arpegiator
+combinators are just fuckin sick
-No audio, its more of an instrument/slave program thats how it should be used to get the most out of it.
-No plugins

Fruity loops
+Amazing step sequencer, best.
+the best arpegiator
+Piano roll tools that no other daw has like strum,flam and legato
+Best for chopping samples thats why its used primarily by hip hop producers
+fruity loops only rival is ableton when it comes to samplers.
-Horrible ceiling and general mixing interface
-Arrangement view isn't great
-Crashes often
-Automating third party plugins is a long tedious job.

Ableton
+Very stable, rarely crashes
+Best live performance tool
+Dj software
+Automation loops
+fantastic drum machines and samplers
+the loop system is great when you get to grips with it
-Crap arpegiator
-Not enough synthersizers and machines to play with.
-Crap headroom

Logic
+loops tool
+best mixer it automatically made my mixing skill grow dramatically
+best headroom/ceiling
+buses in logic work very well
+automating third party plugins is very easy
+very good for audio recording and comping
-Crap arpegiator
-long winded samplers and drum machines
-Crashes quite often
-Only AU plugins which sucks dick.

speaking of daws I've been using ableton for a few years and I know it like the back of my hand but I did one track in reaper a few monthes back and was very impressed and it got me thinking; would there be anything to gain in either switching to reaper or some other daw, or write a tune in ableton then rewire it into some other daw for arranging/mixdown? theres certain things I like in other daws that ableton doesn't have (such as a parametric eq on every track already which saves me the 2 seconds it takes to grab an eq-8 in ableton)

Tracktion 2.
Don't really work with it much now, but the beauty of it is there's only 1 window for both audio & Midi, automation is just a matter of clicking on the waveform or piano roll and as for chopping up stuff? Scroll bar on the mouse to zoom in and out and slide to where you want to cut- Takes less than half the time of FL for me.

No thrills, stock instruments are basic, and the piano roll is awful compared to FL but it was good for learning on a few years back.

-fair enough but If there is two vsts every producer has, its a sampler and an arp.

Wrong! Ableton is only a little better than fruity when it gets over 1gb in memory. That was the original reason i left it, cos it killed off a college project and ran part its memory limit every time i tried to open the file.

Headroom only exists inside your head: logic has an internal output limiter so you never hear it clip. The rest give you the control to let it clip.

i remember reading somewhere rusko attended the same college as im at currently, which is leeds college of music.
however he did a musical performance course where as im doing music tech...
dont know what it was like when he went but there isnt a version of acid pro in sight lmao. never heard anyone mention it in there.
they mainly teach logic, reason and pro tools.
