Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for JANUARY, 2011
@ MUT3 - Liking the vibe of your track mate, really like the way the beat goes from upbeat to a more chilled out vibe, think it works real well.
@NICORISONE - Like the track, really chilled out but the drums sound too quiet? Could be because i'm using crap speakers though.
@CBK81 - Great tune mate, maybe it needs a break part way through though? Calm things down a bit then build back into it? Like I said though, cracking tune otherwise
Here's mine that I've been working on since about 4a.m this morning. Needs alot of improvments, but thought i'd throw my 1st upload in here so I can see what others think I could improve on. This is the 1st song i've used vocals on so may sound dodgey? I think the bass needs sorting too, what do you think? need all the crit' I can get. Cheers

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for JANUARY, 2011
good morgning lads, I'll have a go, too.
@VuDu: I really like how the intro builds a lot of tension, but then the beat coming in at 0.40 is missing something. Dunno what exactly but I THINK it may be missing another element that keeps it together. Somewhat too syncopated and sparse for my taste... Maybe add a tiny shaker on the even beats, just to make clear it's a beat really. As for the vocals: The samples themselves are really nice but for me they get kinda drowned in the mix. Personally I would just take out something just before each vocal sample, like a mini-drop or something. Other than that I really like the song, the really nice vobe going there.
@MUT3: I'll talk about the second track you put up. Intro os either a bit too long or too minimalistic. The drop is really nice, good idea there. I like how the wobbly synth is really thin after that, but later in the track I would appreciate some mory body or a tiny bit distortion. Dunno if you did that on purpose too add to the atmosphere in the track though. as for fx: REALLY nice, they're subtle and change a lot throughout the track. Only bothering me is the snare. At first it was snappy and just fitted nicely into the track but it gets kinda annoying after a while.
@NICORISONE: Nothing to say about that, there's no constructive citicism I could give you. Leave it like this, sometimes less is more.
@CBK81: Nice drum samples, work on the drop though. The kick-build is sooo boring. The really high frequencies in your wobble are too harsh for me, esp. right after the drop, gets better over time though. Dunno if you would want to change that since it would drastically affect your song as a whole. Nice variation on the wobble pattern. But: Where's the subbass? Compared to other tracks posted here, yours does not seem to have any? The end of the track leaves me kind of just hanging there, after that vocal sample I really expected another kickass drop.
Aight here's mine. Just something I started this morning. Really not sure how I should bring in teh wobbulz, seems kinda abrupt. Also I'm not 100% satisfied with the sound it self... It seems to be lacking definition, but I can't seem to fix that.

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for JANUARY, 2011
@ NICORISONE - That first track is immense, the synth pad is warm as hell, almost cinematic and has great atmosphere to it. It's nicely in timed with your backbeat drums aswell which is a sign of technically sound producing! keep it up bro!
@ MUT3 - That bassline on the drop in your track is big! The hollowness of the noise gives it a different depth to a generic bassline and i'm telling you now that its a keeper and should be saved in your soundbank because with some different tweaks you could use it across the board in a whole number of different tracks!
@ VuDu - I'm a huge Burial fan since what he's brought to the table marks a new door opening for dubstep so its no surprise that i'm a fan off the off-set drums, even if it wasn't intentional, it's something you should keep working at because its not only catchy but hypnotising as hell. I think that your timing is a little off though, i appreciate the drums are off-set but the breaks and sporadic beat dont quite go with the type of synth youve used towards the later end. I'd look at tweeking it to be either deeper, or fuller in sound perhaps? some sort of breath pad would suit those drums perfectly. Lovely work though!
Most of the tracks on here are hard acts to follow, specially considering theyre still being worked on, so big up you boys for the hours your putting in!
I'll put my newest one up here, theres loads more in the pipeline aswell so it'd be appreciated and returned if you do drop into my soundcloud every now and then - any feedback is welcomed tbh, the most negative and aggressive disapproval can be a blessing in disguise!
Peace!

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for JANUARY, 2011
@Misterdubwaan: Love the percussion! Sounds so good, is it just me or is the whole mix a bit peircing? Maybe take down the treble, I love the panning btw.
I like your chordal basses too, very inventive. Some basses are sticking up too much in the mix.. [You can actually see it one the waveform.]
@S3f: Awesome panning on your many drums, love the way you build the texture up, I enjoy that bass too. Not all too keen on that thing you've got going on in the background though. :// All in all, good work.
@VuDun: Cool track, but I'm not to keen on your snare sample, it sounds a bit bog standard. Trying layering samples and adding effects.
And I really like the vocal in the background.
Sorry my feedback has been breif but I've done like 200 on Soundcloud this month. :L
Here's mine.

I'd really appreciate feedback on my actual soundcloud, but if not, don't worry.

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for JANUARY, 2011
@ DannyDubstep - Well matey, this is one of the best bits of production posted up here that i've ever listened to. Remove the saws at the drop and the harsh synth wobbles, replace it with some shakers, hi hit loops, house bells and a deep ambient bass maybe some cinematic synth pads to give some depth and it should be released - keep this one upbeat instead of turning it dark, and i think you've got a winner in this song - reminds me of the drums skream would put over a song like in for the kill. mate this is lively as hell! big up!

edit - didnt read the above post properly, ignore me!
Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for JANUARY, 2011
K.. realized theres rules.
@sf3. insane drums on the intro love the cymbal build. not as much of a fan of the wobbles, im sure youre already working on them they just dont seem to flow or need more body or something, too much saw.
@Vudu Really smooth man just think the sidestick sample sould be eq'd to have less of the lows and kick is a little punchy. cool concept.
@MUT3 Talking about your second track. Super chill not sure if i love or hate how subtle the wobbles are. i think that just means its original though itll make people think. the only thing is that sound you start with, the pad should evolve a bit more i think, just slightly to keep it fresh.

@dannydubstep lovely build up, also some classic vocal samples! definate floorfiller.
@vandul loving the edgy build up to the tune, also the beat is really nice. proper half step.
@djdayz gets right into the action, i like it!
Soundcloud
there is my track, going to work on an intro of some sort over the next few days i think. thought i'd lob it on here and see what people thought first though!

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for JANUARY, 2011
@JasonOOch - its not too bad for a firzst try. The mix sounds a bit muddy, too much goin on midrange, just need to do a bit of eq work on the strings and the midrange bassline. not usually a fan of theese sort of wobbles but this fits quite good. Drums lack any real punch, maybe bring them up in the mix a bit. Its a nice tune overall, keep it up.
@non-Xero - feelin the percussive noises in the intro - always nice to have something a bit different than the usual toneless drums. Pad is also really nice, however i feel like maybe it needs a bit more room to breathe, perhaps a gap between the two chords. I like how the melody comes in with the kick drum and drops everything out nice touch. Overall im interested to hear the finished product, ciould maybe add a couple more elements to keep it moving.
@Kes-Es - yes mate this sounds pretty good, plenty of space, nice minimalist mid range bass. Feel like the atmosphere/pad thats in the back until 2.30 grates on my ears after a bit tho, needss something ther constantly tho but thats just a tad painful. solid track man, really feelin it.
@nicorisone - v.6 - i left feedback on the v.2 aswell - i think the tempo reduction was a good move, sounds great at this speed. Its sounding overall better, like the percussion that comes in at 1.30 fits nicely keeps things moving along. I have a problem with the wobble tho, feel like its just a bit bland. Id get some interest in there, have a few different bass sounds bouncin off each other i.e an 808, a sine bass line, some mid range articles over the top junping out and making it move more... just a suggestion! its a nice tune tho, love the pad, my adivce is just get it finished so your reasonably happy and then progress toa new tune.
@Mut3 - adp - nice track man, yeh i agree it needs an epic bassline altho what you got goin on already is pertty good. only thing i was slightly skeptical about tas the pitch rising synth in the intro and again later, i like the idea but dont know if it works in this context. mixdowns tight. keep it up.
@vudu - i agree with s3f, the beats missing something, needs a bit mroe direction, maybe just a shaker line. I feel broken beats and really syncopated stuff, buit you do need a glue to hold it together, even if its really quiet in the background adding a 1/16th shaker or 1/8 shaker will really help. its got heaps of potential this tune, pad could maybe come up in volume a tad coz its getting lost in there. look ofrward to hearing it.
@s3f - yeh the sound does seem to be lacking definition, id either start the bass noise from scratch again or possibly some careful eqing cud clean it up a bit. im felin the vibe your goin for, keep working on it, youll get ther.
@danny-dubstep -i agree with what someone else sed, get rid of the filth go big boomin sub bass line! thats just my preference tho im sure itd go down on the dnac efloor anyway. I mean you make decent mid range bass but it just dioesnt fit with the rest of tehe tune. yoiur production is tight tho nothign to criticise there at all/

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for JANUARY, 2011
wow i've really missed a lot the last few days, but that's what happens when you get into a production "trance" so to speak. good stuff everyone! i've got a few different edits of the song i've been posting to throw out there, but first, feedback!
@DJDayz: siiiick! i'm really liking this. are you side chain compressing your kicks? cause if you are take it down just a smidge. i feel like it ducks a little too much imo.
@VuDu: your track feels a little empty to me, i like the sounds you're using though.
@Vandul: way cool track man! keep it coming. i wanna hear this track when you add some more to it. great start.
EDIT: not expecting all of them to be listened to, of course not. the first 2 are just for reference as to what i have done to the track.
changed the intro on this one: less in you're face. added reverb to the snare, claps, and hats. dumped around with the overall levels. changed the noise filter sweep in the intro to rise into the drop. changed one of the synths to a triangle lfo instead of ramp. did a few other things as well
Soundcloud
dicked around with the levels again, along with the feel and sound of the kick. changed one of the synths lfos back to reverse ramp
Soundcloud
overhauled the intro. levels yet again. took out the arppegiator. made the filtered noise sweep wayyy more subtle. brought the kick out. and i did a few other things, but i'm feeling a little lazy and dont want to type much more haha
Soundcloud
thanks everyone! you've been a massive help!

k, the awkward moment when you accidentally post your wip on the finished tracks thread and wonder why no one has bothered commenting yours... fuck i apologise greatly for that -.-
alexvont - that softsynth wobble is freaking sick dude, beat's nice and i'm keen to see where you finish with that. Sounding beast!
vandul - K your kick's freaking brilliant and you've got your beat nice too yo. Not sure about the yuh yuh but I think you know we're you're going with the drop so yeah
shit I really shouldn't be using the corn smilies...
dannydubstep - interesting drop dude! I'm not sure if I can criticise any bits your work because your quality is such a much a higher standard than mine but shit yeah. The tune is really nicely produced, vocals work well too (:
WIP in progress. Really just experimented, not happy with the sound and would do with some advice (:

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for JANUARY, 2011
further to my last post I have edited the song a fair bit, making the wobble less of the main feature. Added more instruments as advised and made my first attempt at Automation which i cant beleive iv spent 9 years producing music and not bothered learning before. So much better!
anways here it is: Soundcloud
(do u have to give feedbakc every time u post, even if your posting an edit of a previous song a couple of posts back? i already have but make sure i will leave some more shortly.)

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for JANUARY, 2011
@homenoiserecord i love the variety of instruments, and the production levels at the start are awesome. my only criticism would be the wobble bass, for me with this kind of experimental sound almost i'd have gone for maybe some more basic sub bass or something like that. there is already a lot going on in the tune and just not sure the bass really works. nice to hear some horns though! keep at it!

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for JANUARY, 2011
Thanks for the feedback guys. I am going to work on the drop, and up the bass a bit. Also, I am going to vary the drums a bit more. Someone said that I left them hanging at the end, that is where the 2nd drop will be haha.

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for JANUARY, 2011
@primsound- I really like the drums, the rhythm they make is very nice but the mix is sounding a bit muddy- im not sure if its the youtube compression or what though, try using some more equalisers and compressors on there. But yeah, nice tune matey
@HomeNoiseRecord- i love the mdrum noises, like its live samples or something. The whole thing is so epic aswell, i love the harmionies. The only thing i'd say it was missing was some frequency depth, it's all quite thin, maybe have a sub underneat, playing the root of the chords? Very nice tune though.
@eddymaw- the synths are all very nice, like the way they fade in and out in the intro. The snare is a bit weak- maybe bring it up or use a different sample. The sub kind of overpowers everything, maybe bring the synths from the intro over the top of the bass a bit earlier it gets dull a bit quick with just the beats and bass. Nice start though, lots of great parts just the struucture needs work.

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for JANUARY, 2011
VuDu, Totally feelin the intro synths! but the FL FPC drums really kinda ruined it for me
s3f, defo lovin those drums! i feel that synth's release should be turned down a bit though.
dubwaan, like the drums. not hearing too much subbass but maybe thats my headphones.
dannydubstep, love those vocals. it adds life to the track. teh buildup before the drop is arranged very nicely. the filthy drop surprised me but i like it! i think you should boost up the low end of your kick cause i can barely hear it in the mix. and that extra thump would make this track soo much more
Vandul, i like the intro. the bass is nice but i dont think the talking bass should be used so much. only sparingly IMO
DJDayz, love the bass patches you use. they seem to fit togetherr well. your drums seem kinda tucked behind everything else though. try sidechaining the snare and kick a little
PRIMSOUND, LOVE HOW AT...(caps lock, sorry) lol love how atmospheric the intro is! the drums are mixed nicely i think. the bass has a nice tone to it. i think you should automate the LFO rate a ittle bit to keep it interesting. not go crazy or anyhing, just a little quicker before the next bar or so.
alexvont, wasnt gonna give you feedback at first but man that midrange wobble is DOPE!
rubiconguava, not sure if your looking for feedback on the tracks in your sig but i love the 2-steppy feel of them! both are very nicely produced! dynamics and mixing wise
The Jaft, want feelin it at in the first two. you really turned it around in the 4th edit. except for the kick. EQ out that resonance-ey high end and your solid! love the hihat switch-up!
eddymaw, the snare is quite muffled. not sure if your going for that but i think it could use some treble. not hearing too much subbass in it.
CBK81, just wanted to comment on the track in your sig. great drums!
hutyluty, like the the intro's dynamics are laid out. The kick isnt really making it through the mix for me. might wanna sidechain the bass a little. love the break where it chills out for amoment.

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for JANUARY, 2011
@Vandul - Love the piano melody - Reaal dark vibes. Your snare needs working on, the stereo placement is a tad odd, try keep the mids mono and just the HIs wide (if you want a wide snare). Love the synth that comes in at the end. Wobble does sounds clippy, what synth are you using? Musically v good though dude!
@ VUDU - Drums are a bit all over the place. I like the vox! Got a really nice Harmonic in them! Drums just dont sit well sound wise. Synths are nice though. Try making your drums straighter and add a constant ride or shaker to glue the parts together?
@ DannyDubstep - Wicked vibe, nice melody! Cool vox edits. Rave vibe accomplished! Kick drum has some serious sub to it though, could maybe tighten it a tad? Take the release down and cut the lows for the subs? Can't tell if you've actually done that once its dropped actually.. I dunno maybe you have
. Wobbles could do with some cleaning up. Structure is proper good though. Clean the drop up and its dancefloor material!
.
EDIT - I 100% agree with this -
@CBK81 - Just what i expected..
. Only thing i'd say is replace the Resonant wobble near the beginning, it works later deffo. Maybe chuck together a more recogniseable riff? Def achieved the sound your obv going for though!

Don't force a tune into jump up territory because the musical elements are lost!@ DannyDubstep - Well matey, this is one of the best bits of production posted up here that i've ever listened to. Remove the saws at the drop and the harsh synth wobbles, replace it with some shakers, hi hit loops, house bells and a deep ambient bass maybe some cinematic synth pads to give some depth and it should be released - keep this one upbeat instead of turning it dark, and i think you've got a winner in this song - reminds me of the drums skream would put over a song like in for the kill. mate this is lively as hell! big up!
