if he has his knees on my shoulders then i would most likely have enough room/leverage to sneak out the back (i've been pinned like that many times and it's not a very effective pin at all), he should have his knees on the floor but all the way up under my armpits, then it would be a lot harder for me to escape (not impossibe though)

Hey, if it stops you getting hurt then i think its a good tactic... pride does you no favours
well it's obviously pride which is leading people to misrepresent themselves and say they 'talk their way out of it'.
i didn't say that was the case, i said that even if it was the case it still stops you getting hurt and that can only be a good thing. most times all i've had to say is that it's been a misunderstanding and that i had no intention of starting any trouble, thats not the same as saying "im very sorry mr big scary man, please dont hit me"

streetfights? theyre normally over VERY quickly, which is where a boxers speed will outweigh any technical or martial ability.
One quick tap on the jaw, thats all it takes.

I'm not saying that the first blow is the end of the fight, but the outcome of the fight normally comes down to that blow.

tbf, boxing is the most practical form of fighting. most fights, it doesn't matter about technical ability. if you can throw the harder punch and if you can take a punch is all that counts. i've never seen a fight won on technical ability. unless the person is a fucking don at what they do. which is rare.

I aint had a scrap on the street for a good few years, if i knew then, what i know now, i could of seriously hurt someone and ended up in trouble. good job im a bit older and wiser now not to get into those situations. not talking my way out of em, just avoiding places where it might happen. boxing is instinctive, everyone knows how to throw a punch (not necessarily a technically sound punch, but a punch none the less), thats why you see it happen in street fights all the time, if you get in a street fight with someone that has no training of any form they are going to try and punch you. the reason you dont see technique triumph in street fights is because generally people who practice martial arts avoid getting into fights

all i was trying to say is that if i get put on my back, im going to be glad that i know how to finish a fight whilst on my back

2 be honest though the best form of self defence is to not get into a fight in the first place

thats only because everyone knows how to punch, you say whoever can throw the hardest punch and can take a punch wins... what if someone can take your punch then picks you up and takes you to the floor? no amount of punching can help in that situation but having a knowledge of ground fighting can

it's all variables man

Wrong!
Toad style is immensely strong, and immune to nearly any weapon
When it's properly used, it's almost invincible.

Most people think they know how to throw a punch. It happens the most in street fights because its the most guaranteed to hurt someone. Most people that will start fights have training in the form of getting into fights before.

The reason you don't see technique much in street fights is because there's no rules and limitations in a street fight. And because street fighting is about hurting someone, not who is technically superior.

But yeah the best self defence is to avoid conflict.

That's good for them if they can apply it but a street fight is such a blink of an eye situation a lot of people won't be able to apply that quick enough.

In my opinion the reason you dont see technique in street fights is because the sort of people who get into street fights simply dont have the technical knowledge, its nothing to do with a lack of rules. if some chavvy tnuc who likes a beef starts on someone who is trained in a martial art i would put my money on the trained guy even if there are no rules, but the person who is trained would be very unlikely to start a fight. street fights 9/10 are between 2 people who are both untrained in any form or martial art and that is why you dont see displays of technique.
