So i've been hearing alot of dubstep being pumped out of radio 1 over the last few months day and night.
My personal thoughts on it are that radio 1 are pulling dubsteps pants down and "dry bumming" the scene.
What's peoples thoughts on this?
Are you all for dustep being as commercial as Pop and Electro are?
Or
Are you all for keeping it an underground scene with an edge to it?
.....i know which one i'm goin with.

i think it's a difficult one. more and more people are getting into it, and as a result it's just going to get bigger.
i don't think anyone has a problem with people getting into something, it's the quality of tunes coming out that would concern me. some of the "dubstep" you hear on the radio is downright appaling, i can't remember the name of it but travelling back from seeing my mrs over the weekend i heard this absolutely horrible tune. modestep it might have been, and it made me realise that it was the bad tunes i hate, not the fact that it's getting big or people are starting to like it.
as far as the "chartstep" goes i have no problem, alot of it i actually like. most of the magnetic man album is decent, i quite liked katie and her mission, but i drew the line at love never dies!
so yeah, to sum up. it's not getting popular that's the problem, it's the crap tunes that come along with it that is!

I heard Dubstep on NPR the other day during a break… like those little musical crossovers they do between traffic and a news story… mind = blown.
Also on a SCIENCE SHOW
“Through the WormHole with Morgan Freeman: Is Time Travel Possible?” Dubstep tune was playing in the background during one of their illustrations… Was laying down, sat straight up...

unbelievable.
D&B never seemed to get noticed by anything even in his heydey. But Dubstep has started appearing EVERYWHERE. It’s a phenomenon. LOL

I truly detest the term 'underground' for non commercialised music. Nothing is underground anymore, there are like a billion outlets for all music. Dubstep isn't underground at all, Get Darker, Rinse FM, You Tube Videos, Releases, Radio 1 of course, Club Nights everywhere. Social Networking. If the term undergound ever applied, to me it would have to be for music you only ever hear at rave ups or in producers studios.

Finally some integral people to the scene are getting their £15 per 30 seconds air time.
Shame about everyone else getting their nonsense played.

They've been playing shit for years as well as good stuff, they just put on anything that'll make people put their hands in the air and go "Whoooo" (or get low and pull a gurner). Radio 1 does some realllly good stuff but 75% of it is commerical repeats, I listen to Radio 2 (and 3 for the really interesting stuff) instead because I get sick of the DJs chatting shit constantly instead of just playing good tunes..
I think they're just afraid of being left out on what's going on so try and make out that they've got all the best tracks but when do you ever hear something that would get played at DMZ or Exodus coming out on daytime radio?! It's like they're worried that people won't like 'real' dubstep

in fairness my only gripe is with the daytime dj's, they seem to love any old shit and think that it makes them incredibly cutting edge by doing so.
fair play to radio 1, the skream and benga show was decent (as you'd expect). they are trying to ensure that some proper stuff is played by people that know all there is to know about it.

I'm sayin! Great listen.
Anywho as far as the topic's concerned, cmon. The radio is appealing to wider audiences aka the mainstream. The end result will always be inferior product-generally speaking of course. We just have to suck it up and weed out the diamonds in the ruff, because it's not gonna be changing anytime soon. Let's just appreciate the fact that there is still a vibrant underground scene pushing the real sounds of the genre. At least we have that.

At least we can be thankful they gave the INDWT to Skream & Benga.
Ok other shows/DJs are going to play out a load of shit and a small amount of good stuff but the main dubstep representatives are 2 of the main players. Tis all good.
If Fearne Cotton ever plays dubstep............can somebody mutilate her overly annoying face.....and possibly cut out her vocal cords??
