Anyone know some good techniques for improving your memory?
I've got an exam in 2 days and I'd like to be able to cram efficiently, I've already draw mind-maps on the 3 topics which helped instantly but I'd like to have it all on lock so I'm asking if anyone knows good ways of remembering things?
I'm considering writing a rap, a song and a ballad, each for a different topic

Hypnosis; works a treat
Although regurgitating the information can be another story

I used to summarise an entire year's worth of notes on to a sheet of A4 paper (both sides). If it didn't fit, it wasn't important enough to know. The act of writing something down reinforces memory. Also handy for skimming through quickly on the way to the exam. Don't know whether that's any more useful as you're doing mind maps (never did those). Best really is to go through everything you've written up within 7 days. I never found it worthwhile trying to cram in more stuff right before the exam itself, that probably causes more self doubt than anything else.
Oh and have a good night's sleep. And don't go in stressed.

Depends what level the exam is and what subject.test recordings wrote:I've got an exam in 2 days and I'd like to be able to cram efficiently, I've already draw mind-maps on the 3 topics which helped instantly but I'd like to have it all on lock so I'm asking if anyone knows good ways of remembering things?

Psychology, final year undergraduate. If I get the name in front of me or in my head I know what it's about, the mind map is for stems of concepts and developing them as they branch out...fuagofire wrote:Depends what level the exam is and what subject.test recordings wrote:I've got an exam in 2 days and I'd like to be able to cram efficiently, I've already draw mind-maps on the 3 topics which helped instantly but I'd like to have it all on lock so I'm asking if anyone knows good ways of remembering things?

I guess using mind maps fits with being a psychology student. My psychology mate just panics.

my mates are always like 'do you remember that time . . . ' and im like 'er . . . yeah' but i dont acutually remember it. for all i know it never happened and theyre lying.

Shit, good luck. I've heard about mind maps but never tried them myself. might start giving them a go - got any links explaining the concepts?
Re: Anyone know some good techniques for improving your memo
the only times i've ever nailed something like that its taken about 2weeks of constant revision; note-taking, reducing my notes, re-writing, re-ordering, re-calling... revision. surely you know by now what works for you?? i wouldn't suggest trying something completely foreign, maybe tried and tested techniques you've already used would serve you best?

do what you want. but repetition is key to anything
Re: Anyone know some good techniques for improving your memo
Make a story out of it, that's what the 'memory champions' do. A rap would work the same.
Post rap once done.

All of this, did the same with my exams.kay wrote:I used to summarise an entire year's worth of notes on to a sheet of A4 paper (both sides). If it didn't fit, it wasn't important enough to know. Repetition has been proven to build brain matter. "Practice makes perfect". If you want to learn something or remember it, repeat the process or item to be memorized over and over and over and over.
Re: Anyone know some good techniques for improving your memo
mnemonics or however you spell it.
Summarise everything you need to learn into a list of single words.
Starting with the first word on the list, imagine an image representing the word in your mind (something big coulourfull and slightly exagerated whilst still being easily linked to the original word)
Now think about the second word and make a mental image of the first image interacting with the new image.
repeat and revise this process two or three times and you will have the list of words locked into your memory.
I always find in examinations that, if I have the key words locked down my memory is capable of expanding upon them.
Read a shitload as well.
