once again someone from the side of things that people love to bitch about comes back with an argument that puts all the whiners to shame. quite funny really seeing all the bitchy comments from people who love to feel superior and then seeing a well reasoned response like thatChronosRecords wrote:dj seizure wrote:But if you look at the voting (and I know it isn't the end of the world) but you can see they have a decent following of people which respect what they're putting out.knell wrote:i agree, compare excision or reso to any chronos tune and it's laughable...DRTY wrote:I wholeheartedly agree with this... being someone that likes all aspects of dubstep, including the harder stuff, I think Chronos are a fucking joke they haven't had a single release that doesn't sound like it's been produced in <5 minutes. Was deinately a WTF moment seeing them on the nominees list.
i mean, really chronos, enough with the bitcrushers and formants, we get it
It's just odd for me.
To be honest I know it's a tired old fucking argument, but I implore you to listen to it anyway... here we go....
I respect the fact that not everyone likes the sound that we put out, however similarly I ask those who don't to take note of the following. It's a key part of what we enjoy doing to take on a lot of young and fresh artists who in some cases are still finding their sound. I am fully aware of the arms length list (at least) of negative things people have to say about the brosteppy sound, and I am not here to argue the toss about those as like with most musical arguments or points of view they have valid routes and those that convey them are entirely entitled to field them.
The nature of the 'filth' facet of the genre is one which conforms to a totally different set of criteria than that which the people that take offence to what we do like to see adhered to in a dubstep track. While I will reiterate, that point of view is completely fine to be entitled to, it does not preclude those artists that have another or share both from having the right the make the music that they enjoy making.
A lot of people really like what we've achieved this year, and it's not for lack of hard work and a real love of the music that we put out. While it's not for everybody's taste, there are a large quantity of people that really enjoy it, which has been reflected by the success that I am proud and hugely grateful to say we have enjoyed.
I am not going to say that I enjoy all sorts of dubstep, as I don't. I am not of the ilk that will frown on those who I personally do not enjoy listening to.
Whilst I have no problem with people branding us 'shit', or 'brostep' or whatever myriad slates that they may cast us as, one thing I do not think is fair is to lambaste us for being nominees and for receiving support in the awards. I expected nothing from them and was surprised and elated to have received a nomination. I am really pleased that we've got enough fans out there to have recognised us for what has been a really hard working year and recognise the artists, who despite whether or not you value their production have worked fucking hard. Not a lot of artists get the chance to get that sort of recognition and it's made us consistently pleased over the last 12 months to allow them the opportunity to receive it.
It's a little bit easy when people aren't on the same page musically to present arguments like this, however in a set of awards which are open to all avenues of a genre, it's a shame that it inevitably boils down to the same contradictory and narcissistic patter.
If you don't like us then that's absolutely fine, however I think to say that people don't deserve success when eat sleep and breathe their part of whatever scene... is a bit of a cheap shot.
A can remember having a discussion with a flatmate who was into rock music who would blanket tell me that Vitalic were shit because using a computer to make music was easy and irrefutably not as good.
Fuck me it was like banging my head against a brick wall and this broken record stance is the same
Dj seizure, thank you for what is at least a fair opinion
Cheers man. I fucking love badgers; they're my spirit animal. as people have said you really can't blame a record label for being nominated by its fans, and then being voted for by those same fans

Ramadanman - Work Them
Addison Groove - Footcrab
Girl Unit - Wut
James Blake - CMYK
Ramadanman - Glut
Mala - Education
James Blake - Limit To Your Love
Coki - Horrid Henry
Breach - Fatherless
Eskmo - Cloudlight
What most blogs and websites have been raving about for the year. Didn't even want to vote for this but ended up going for Mala. No new Joy Orbison or Shackleton. But I guess this is a popularity contest so I'll leave it be.

What you on about mate? ANYONE could make one of those sweets in about 15 minutes with a basic knowledge of kitchen utensils.
Can't understand how they're so popular.
For fuck sake man, I remember when sweets used to be underground and cool...
