I managed to save about 200 a month by battering down my phone contract, getting cheaper internet, switching credit cards, then eventually stopping going into the red in my main bank account, paying my bills on time, and finally paying off my credit card. So it's nothing like 'stop buying records', it's more about avoiding getting hit with stupid waste fees.
