Re: Let's talk progression...
I think the point is that no one should need to be told what to do. You shouldn't need some dude to offer you up screen grabs of his bass, just because you want to know how to make it, and then tweak it a bit and call it your own. You are correct, the "make the distorted bass" thread is pretty basic and not extremely specific as to how to make a Datsik bass (for example). That's because once you know that lfo>cutoff= wobbles, and modulate everything, and resample, what more is there really to know? There comes a point in time where we all have to say, "I'll be damned if I don't figure out how to do this", and lock ourselves in, and make it happen.
for me, experimentation is the key to progression.

One thing you said? I responded to most points you made (or tried to make) and then *you* have only chosen one thing I've said to reply to XD hypocrite much?kuntmuffin wrote:@paravirus - Did you even read the post? I was talking about metal guitars, of course metal isn't going to sound like Hendrix, you're comparing to many different types of genres, and I find it insulting that you run off with one thing I said into a temper tantrum of irrelevance. And I agree the production bible is great, but not advanced
And I guess your right, mostly metal guitars sound the same because they are so overdriven to fuck you can't hear the original tone underneath, but then mostly all metal songs sound exactly the same so that was a pretty bad example for you to try to use lol.
What point are you even trying to get at here? That's an incredibly ignorant and narrow minded thing to say right there and from the majority of your posts it seems that you seem to be under the impression that the boring cookie cutter brostep nonsense being pedalled on youtube is all that's coming out of the Dubstep scene at the moment :\ if you can't be bothered to look for the good music then your not gonna hear it are you?I believe that the opportunity to be a pioneer in this genre is long gone, guys like Geeneus, Benga, D1, Skream, Hatcha, Digital Mystikz... dare I say... Datsik, Excision, Flux, Doctor P... they are the ones that will forever be remembered (along with many others of course) as the ones that did it first.
You seem to be a very confused little man, first you start off by belittling us by saying we don't help newbies exactly replicate Datsik basses and the next second your telling us that everyone that makes Dubstep sounds the same and we need to be more original??
Fuck off. Basically. Actually fuck off.
Re: Let's talk progression...
Bit off-topic;
I just Played these 2 tracks at the same time, and they synced great. Just play one of them, stop it on the main kick, or snare, play the other, then when the main kick or snare plays , hit play on the other, might take a few goes to get a feel for it. Is that right, or should I stop smoking now???

Re: Let's talk progression...
i understand where you are coming from but this is untrue. a great way to pioneer is to understand the past. in this case understanding the past is understanding how these sounds work. learn everything that is known, then break all the rules that go into making it. if you do not learn to recreate you have a slimmer chance of evolving it. this is not exclusive to music of course. but in all of human history ^___^Sharmaji wrote:knowing exactly, down to the T, how to re-create what's happened before you isn't progression.
nothing against you this was just a logical fallacy to me n shtuff

Re: Let's talk progression...
I had faith and it paid off. This did turn into a discussion on progression with great opinions on both sides of the fence. But for some reason i still have to emphasize on some shiyat.
1) The first thing my post says is progression as a community.
2) I offered my opinion on the subject, I am entitled to it.
3) I never asked for help in this thread. I don't need nor want any. And thats my choice. I wanted to see what you thought about it. So how about everyone stop telling ME how to progress my music, because it is not the subject of this thread.
Thanks

You signed up 2 weeks, don't come in here talking about the community, theres more to the scene than some just-turned 18 year olds getting drunk and off their face on ket with new era hats on. seriously.

Re: Let's talk progression...
A community will progress as a matter of being, how else did we get here from calypso music?
& now that we have the internet & our community is as big as the world is...
progression will happen very quickly.
look how many sub-genres there are of Dubstep alone?
I don't think you even thought about how much this genre has progressed!!
There will always be those that will make music to appease the current flavour,
yet there will always be true musicians that will strive to push the boundaries.
If you don't see/hear what is right in front of your ears/eyes!!
get a hearing aid & glasses!
Those people that are asking how to make those aforementioned sounds are not musicians!
Many of them want the fame, cash money & bitches!!
I live & breathe sound, I am one with the energy!!

Accidentally hit post twice or something whoops.
Re: Let's talk progression...
Because you come here with all your assumptions. Talk a load of shit, constantly try and change track when people point out that your talking shit and it's quickly revealed that actually you know nothing about the scene. Nothing about the contributions people of this forum have made and are generally just constantly changing your points to cause aggro.
And don't suddenly act like you've been lurking here for years. Even if you have (which you haven't) that doesn't make you a member of the community. Maybe try putting something in before you start trying to tell us what to do yeah?

Re: Let's talk progression...
To be perfectly honest - the only way this problem will be half-solved, is if we have a goldmine of information that is succinct, rather than all over the place on these forums. A wiki would be perfect.
That said - I have not found these forums to be hostile at all. People (and myself included these days), get sick of the same question being asked when it -is- answered in the threads up the top. If you're not going to bother spending a few hours reading (I've spent hundreds of hours on this site reading shit), then you're really not going to be doing anything special anyways - so why should anyone care about what you're doing?
That said - it also comes down to your approach. I've seen people here get slammed because they clearly have no clue, and I've seen others ask very politely and even apologize - and they've had a world of information thrown at them + examples, and a friendly welcome.
I was introduced to dubstep 2-3 years ago, and I have to say that in such a small amount of time the scene is changed a LOT. Brostep is the sound of the day and I don't consider myself oldschool, but it's just not the same. That said - I am very happy to see guys like Mala, Coki, Kryptic Minds, Truth.etc. - all guys preaching the deeper, soulful dubstep - are still making a very big mark on the scene, years later.
