No joke, but this thread got me back into making tunes. Subscribing to this for when I need a kick in the arse.

Cheers. Turning off the net for a while now :)

You used an exercise analogy but that kinda lets you down because you have to have rest days with that too if you want to be properly healthy. Just like I feel if you want to be a healthy musician you need to have rest days from that too.

Doing too much of anything aint gonna be good.

If I sit down to work and find all I'm making is shit that day I normally push through and try a different genre or look up some scales or something instead but some days I just think word I'm just gonna play videogames and learn to cook something new today.
I agree with this, but I don't think Kaiori let anyone down with the exercise analogy. As with exercising, when you need rest days, one, two, sometimes 3 or 4 depending on what you exercised, not everyone can sit down and produce every day of the week. Some people can, just like there are people at the gym that go hard for a couple hours every day, and I really wish I could too! And also as with exercising, I'm sure there are foods that help writer's block. Anything that's good for you brain really, fruits and vegetables, vitamin water, fish (anything with omega-3 too). I would probably stay away from greasy, unhealthy stuff before trying to sit down to produce, but maybe that's just me.

I suffer from the same exact problem! Fucking CoD and FIFA consume my life now. I actually feel really shitty and guilty about this, because I put music playing right beside me, and I tell myself it's still kind of like working on music, but I'm just getting ideas for the next day when I go to sit down and try to write. It's not bad though, certain videogames you play can actually give you ideas and inspiration for music, God of War 3 did for me! :i:

Thanks for the wicked post too, bookmarked, and will re-visit whenever those shitty times come up again!

Er...I think you misunderstood either me or Kaiori. He's saying you should *never* take a break from music and always consistently keep pushing on no matter what and I was pointing out that you *need* to have a break sometimes or you loose focus. That's why the exercise analogy lets him down because with exercise just like with music you NEED to have rest days or your muscles, creative or otherwise, will get fatigued and won't grow.

Not me bruv. I don't produce under crytek anymore anyway. I just use my real name (for reasons you just stated lol). Speaking of, anyone know who I can talk to to get my user name changed?

Crytek are the developers behind the Crysis games :p so excited for Crysis 2. Felt that needed to be said. Definitely on topic.

Love this thread!!
Full of wisdom, thank you!

Just this past month I've had writers block and couldn't get anything sounding half decent..
I guess it was by sheer will-power that I eventually got something workable out.

Months like that make me depressed haha.
