Aww shucks

Cheers bro. That track, its nice. Fucking feeling it, dark as hell. Intro is just my thing! Little vocal samples are nice. Give tutorial for that bass? PLEASE :)
It be nice with a little something behind the bass for added atmosphere, but there dosnt really need any more melody. Bass carries it

Does anyone know of a thread here on DSF that strictly talks about making low end/ subbass sounds in massive, I would love to see how some of you guys u synthesizers. Also please dont take my constructive criticism so harsh since we are all working together to get better, hopefully i can help some of you and vice versa.

sqwuabblesmynig- Definitely feelin something from this track, the intro and the samples used are nice but one thing that caught my attention is the first set of wobbles seem to be a little off key with the intro, maybe work on tuning your occiclators a little bit to make the flow from the intro a bit better. The patterns after that sound nice not sure if they need to be tuned a little also if change you change the first set but anyways keep on it!!
nnny-Awesome atmosphere threw the intro, maybe lower the snare hits just a little throughout the intro, kinda killin my ears a bit but they punch threw nicely after. Melody is feelin just right i like the distorted guitar synth with mad reverb and the progression I just the dont really like the wobbles that come in at 1:50.
antman-I think this tune needs a little help, I think switching up the drums making the snare hit on 3 would do wonders with the beat, nothing right now is grabbing my attention sounding pretty blan. The first drop is just as borning, maybe come up with a bassline with more then 2 notes. I would come up with a catchy synth line too.
CoreyGoesRawr-Diggin the buildup into the 1st drop, the atmospheric intro isnt really grabbin me and neither is that glitchy little wobble, it gets a little repetitive. I like the industrial sound you have going on. I think some type of synth in a higher register could help, nothing to over powering just something minimal and catchy.
DurtyD-Keep it comming, sounding pretty good. Not so keen for the cockback samples just because it isn't very original but as far as the overall track is concerned i like what you have going.

and my lastest wip's, constructive criticism is greatly appreciated

@DurtyD nice tune if youve just been beginning, like me, well dubstep. anyways nice bass man, and nice sample, some vox samples in it wold be nice

EDIT: 430AM. been working on this for about an hour now, no its not from the lil wayne song haha, and no i dont feel like that, i just had a time of bars in my life. anyways the idea was from it but i got the sample aswell. just a wip, comments tips are much appreciated, and will gladly be givin back. been working on synthesis and sound designin all day in massive since i have cleared my comp out enough to get her running lol, its been a while, a few tweaked fidget wobs, also one tweaked patch i got from a buddy in there datisk type yaah im likin it, the growls not really on that skrillex tip, but mainly im looking for pointers in anything since i am fairly new. i would really like pointers on my sub since i dont have monitors, i would like to know if its good, or okay or whatever, so if not i can get read up on sub a bit more. thanks alll you guys! cheers to anyone who listens, big ups to everyone from los angeles :W:

@CoreyGoesRawr - I'm really loving the intro synth and the build ups! The bass fits nicely... I cant give any advice really.
@boo131 - Loving the dark atmosphere and bass! Great tune :W:
@antman - Good start.. maybe you could introduce a faster lfo and glitches on the bass later to lengthen it

Here's my tune I've been working on for awhile VV

@alexvont12 - I love the intro to your track. Kinda sounds like Radiohead doing dubstep :) I really like the panning your wobble sound. Over all the track is really nice, well mixed and not overly compressed. I think a little reverb on your wobble sounds would be quite nice. Not loads, but enough to give them space. Can't wait to hear this finished :D

@sqwuabblesmynig - Your main sounds are either way too high or not nearly dirty enough. Don't use distortion to get dirty sounds but extra oscillators. The really dirty sounds are generally at least three voices. If you detune them a little then they'll phase a bit and that sounds awesome. Your drums are really nice, although you could do a little more with them. You can tell that the sub is separate from your main sounds and that makes it sound like they don't really fit. It actually a reasonably small fix and overall your track is pretty cool. I think some variation in LFO speed would add a lot to the track too.

@MRP5 - I personally wouldn't use Massive for sub-bass, although it can be done. I generally duplicate my main bass sound and filter anything out that's over 80Hz. That makes for a pretty good sub (to my ears anyway) and it really compliments the original sound. Smash That is really nice. Not what I would normally listen to but I enjoyed it. I think a tiny bit less compression and a bit more dynamic range would sound nice. It often sounds good to have your track a bit louder after the drop because it has more impact. Leaving for Mars is impressive. It sounds really professional, if a little bit mainstream. It's pretty upbeat which is odd for a dubsteppy track. I'm not sure if that's what your going for or not, it really depends on what the track means to you. If you haven't before, have a listen to Cloudburn by Feed Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aw25X8JfFHg). That starts really upbeat and mainstream, then drops into dark sounds. It's awesome. Cool work overall.

This is a new dubstep track I just started yesterday, so be gentle :)

jakedubber- Yea cloudburn is one of my favorites at the moment, made a small mix with it hereSoundcloud.
Thanks for the input, I know most of the learning I need to do is low end/ subbass work. I haven't really broke into the es2 or esx24 on logic so modulating basslines with lfos is a bit easier with massive atm but I definitely agree, I haven't got that clean sound Im after. What do you guys use for subbass?? I haven't really found any great reads so if anyone can link me up to something that they have found useful please do so. Im digging your track its heavy ass hell but id still have to say the sub gets a little messy in some parts, and the voice samples kick ass and it the idea is flowin keep with it, I grabs my attention!
METSU- Rotten Kebab is dope, very nice sounding drums throughout intro, Drop is spot on as well as your wobble sequences, Maybe just a bit more cleaning up and your on your way to a perfect track homie.

little more feedback on this idea would be grea too, thanks for the input on Leaving For Mars guys!

@MRP5 Some cool sounds in there bro. The drop is cool, but it dosn't seem big enough to me. Drop seems a little weak. Apart from that, I like it.

@sqwuabblesmynig Vocal sample is cool but I think it could do with some work. Don't like the snare, but the drum pattern works. Some bass could do with some tweeking, but overall sounds cool so far man.

@Metsu - Rotten Kebab This track is sick so far man! Loving the indiany vibes off it. Drums sound amazing. Bass is wicked. Love it!!

Here's a new WIP I just banged out a few minutes ago. Some inspiration hit me, and looking to make a proper chill track. Just got a foundation down...

@Sqwuabblesmynig- Im diggin this tune, all you need is a good deep sine base layered to that and it would sound much better imo.

@Alexvont12- This is definatly an original sound and very creative. I like the different take on Dubstep with this one for sure!

@Metsu- I like this tune, drums are sounding good. keep working on this one!

@MRP5- Bay Hoes gets my 2 thumbs up! Just add a deep sine base to that drop and it's there for sure!!

Here's a few tunes Ive been working on the last few weeks in my spare time! Please give me some feedback!

I'm a little rushed for time right now and I gave feedback already anyways, but I'll return tomorrow and take some time to listen to more of these. Here's the same track that I already posted, but I've been working on a nice drop for it and here is the update:

Soundcloud

I'm really happy with the modulated bass there but I think I still really have to work on the intro because it still sounds... strange. :r:
My first ever finished track. Wondering if it needs a bit more... I forgot to put hi Hats in near the end but it makes the outro sound kind of better? Would like feedback

Soundcloud

I think this may be the last version I put up. I think I improved it but the more I listen the less I like.

And can someone tell me why soundcloud makes tunes sound bad? Like compressed.

@ sqwuabblesmynig - Really liked it after the drop, but maybe place the vocal different, my opinion though. Keep working on it.

@ Bainsound - I LOVE this song, especially the intro. My advice: really good mixing but if the guitar pluck was like 1 or 2 db louder it'd be nicer. But really awesome song.

@ jakedubber - Pulp fiction. I like the sounds, I don't really have any constructive feedback. Maybe add a element to it and better the mix.

@ TOX1K
I like The Intro, it is kind of misleading as to whats to come later in the song, but I like it.
What Do you use for your Modulated bass in the end portion?

@ MRP5 feed-me-dubstep-mix.
I....Don't Even have words dude, Amazing doesnt quite do it.
Simply Put, thats the shit I wanna Hear when i look for dubstep.

So now I feel completely foolish posting my amature-step,

@Notbellm -> Nice clean production, good song structure. I agree with the guy above me, maybe layer on another kick, or just add reverb to the one you got but see if it causes frequency problems or not, if so then maybe two kicks instead of one is the way to go. I like the transition at 1.50. Oh and I'm most definitely not a professional only been doing this for a few months now and I also have no musical background, other than occasionally playing the drums. As for your question, the modulation in my bass was done in the Performer thingy in Massive, which I basically just figured out how to use earlier today. I had like 3 instances of massive open with the same sound loaded up that I made, and I loaded different curves into all 3. There's definitely a better way to go about doing that, but I haven't learned it yet. Keep up the good work :r:

@notbellm - Good start man, I like the melody, the drums and bass seem a bit flat though.. Layer some more kicks on top of the original ones to make em really stand out. Beef up the bass a bit somehow too and this song would be much better :W:

@TOX1K - Hah thanks man :) I really like the drums and that dirty bass in yours.. maybe to help the intro fit better you could make a higher pitched version of whats in the intro, but loop it at a low volume right after the drop.... just keep tweakin it hah. I'd add some risers to the build-up and a crash after the drop. Also the reverb on the water drop noise is a bit too high, it muddies up the mix alot. I'm interested in the final version. :W:

@alexvont12 - Cool track. You could turn the kick down or put a limiter on it. Maybe try to separate it from the synth, cause whenever the synth goes up in volume I heard some slight crackling. I like the mixdown on the hats. I have a concern with how effective the drops are. The kick and the hat could build up along with the synths and the wobblies. Especially around the 1:40 area since I'm guessing that the drop at 1:55 is the first main drop? I like where its heading. Keep at it.

@Notbellm - Ok... the drop is sick, but I don't enjoy the keys in the intro at all. sry! They work a bit better at 1:40 but Id still turn em down. In the intro try not to give away the full integrity of the keys. Work them into the build up. Slowly fade them in, increase the attack and maybe delay? Otherwise, you cant call that track amateur at all dude. You have wicked composition skills. After the drop the track kept me hooked, Im glad I listened long enough haha. For the kicks I always layer a minimum of two different samples. My snare sometimes contains three or four. For a fast paced track the drums have to put through as much energy as the bass and the mids. If you feel that your kick is getting to boomy or interferes with your sub, try to roll it off around 150hz at a high peak and kill it around 80 - 100hz. All depends on how your kick sounds of course. It might seem out of place at first but in the end its all about making space for each instrument in the sound stage. Make sure the snare is cut off at 100hz and its always popular to raise it a bit around 200-220 hz to give it more punch. Look at a frequency visualizer in your DAW to get a feel where each part of your track hits.

@eldoogle - I would address the snare first. Same idea as above. Layer a few samples to get it a little bit fuller. You have about 1/3 of a good snare there. Try to pick different sounding samples as well. If you cut all the different parts you have in your track in half and than take all that and just repeat it again with some drum pattern changes (which I noticed so good on ya), sick sounding automations etc., your track will feel a lot fresher. I really dont understand why you left the sickest drop in the track until 4:00 in. That should be the leading part of the whole track and Id drop it at 0:40. Than make everything work around it. If you are composing 32 bars at a time cut that down to 16. If you are composing 16 bars at a time than cut that down to 8. That way each new section feels and sounds altered and tweaked to create movement into whats coming next in the track.

Anyway, some of the shit I wrote might not make sense. Its 4:00 am here and I just got back home a few hours ago from spinning my first party! So yea, please check my track (look below). If you dont have any feedback at least give me a thumbs up or down so I know if Im heading in the right direction... or not. Thanks!

edit:

@MRP5 - Here is a thread that was started a few days ago. Helped me out. btdubz, your tracks are sick. Keep it goin.
