EQing my bassline

So I often hear people talk about EQing their basslines and I do it as well but to a much lesser extent than I hear talked about on this board. I usually EQ out the lowest 100 hz and I've experimented with making little cuts in the middle (which I've heard can be used to great effect) but I can't help but think I'm not quite getting it all the way. Does anyone have any screenshots of their basslines EQed? Not to jack your EQ (I doubt the same exact EQ would even work with diff. basses) but I feel like this would push my sound forward a lot more if I was just doing something more than arbitrarily making cuts and listening to vague differences in sound. Anyone have some examples or tips? Thanks

It really depends on the bassline, no set guidelines for where to eq, as you said yourself. Also you said you eq out the part below 100hz, do you put a sub instead? If you dont, then obviosly there would be no weight behind all the midrange.

are you talking about mid range - tear out style wobble? yeah cut all the sub from it ... and make a small dent around and 500 - 800 .. but depends how much distortion you've used it on it ... the more distortion used, the more taking frequency removing is needed

haha yeah forgot to mention I layer a sinewave sub under it. I've got the weightiness I just need more clarity.

Sure, let's call it a tear out bass. Now when you say small dent what are we talking? Like just a few DB? Really skinny cut? Wide?

According to this how-to video on tear out bass lines, the author at 2:15 suggests: "Dip around 500 hz. Reduce up to 8db using a medium Q curve. Another big dip around 2kHz."

But that's just a rough guide I guess, depends how ur tear out bass line sounds to begin with. I usually make skinny deep cuts, and sweep with the EQ until it sounds good/right/better than before.

don't go overboard. i'll roll off the very bottom and top of the spectrum, as well as small boosts at around 200 for presence and around 1k for clarity.
