You would mix it out surely, unless you've started with some crazy intro or something of a vastly different bpm?!

Wheeling up the first track doesn't exactly make your mark on the set as a dj.

Why would anyone pull up the first song?
N-type probably would on RinseFM though, he pulls back every song pretty much haha

To answer your qs, I meant like starting with something that is just an intro thing that you can't really mix out of like not dubstep just a random piece of music. I've seen quite a few djs do it

I'm starting my next gig with Sukh Knight - Diesel not Petrol. I think it's got a cool and short intro so you get a little brass in there but then it just cuts too it. Plus that song is swaag

Depending on what the feel of the night is could be anything! Normally it'll just be a standout dubstep/similar track. Miserere by Ruckspin, quark and planas is I would imagine my most used track playing out by miles! Will happily have a little dive down some other avenues first though, if the audience looks like they can handle it. Had our night in Cardiff bumping out hard to some old funk one time...

On a side note however. Digital mystikz are blatantly the king of this. When they opened with Witness at a DMZ years ago, it was by faaar the bassiest tune of the night :D Sounded fucking unbelievable!

Usually something epic. Truth - Burglar/Masters of the Stars works well for a prime-time slot

If I'm going for some chillout biz, usually something deep and techy, like DJG - Duality

I never play the same set twice though, so it's constantly changing.

Really depends on what's happening...if I'm spinning dubstep after a dnb DJ i use a little 1 minute intro tool I made that's more atmospheric and not based so much on a beat. Allows me to start with any style and not lose a ton of momentum.
