This pretty much for me... I love the discriptions you get. Just a quick question. Someone said to me that the human ear probably couldn't tell the difference between a 320 & a WAV when being played out. Obviously you can tell the difference between a Dub & digital but is there actually a noticeable difference between 320 & WAV?herbalicious wrote:I pretty much exclusively buy from Boomkat. Where do you buy your (digital) tracks?

Re: Where do you buy your (digital) tracks?
only on an audiophile system imo.
Re: Where do you buy your (digital) tracks?
It's debated. Most people can't hear the difference, even on audiophile soundsystems, so I doubt it's gonna be noticed in a loud club where everyone's talking.

Re: Where do you buy your (digital) tracks?
I play them all the time and they are fine. Its almost unnoticeable on top end monitors never mind PA systems. I've played on the Bass Alliance rig a few times going between 320 and 256 and there is fuck all difference.ahier wrote:what do people feel about playing 256? cos thats all itunes sells, and some songs are itunes exclusively that i wanna play out
Quote from wikipedia
in a noisy environment with (probably) bad acoustics all is well. The compression works by reducing accuracy of certain parts of sound that are considered to be beyond the auditory resolution ability of most people
Re: Where do you buy your (digital) tracks?
TBH doesn't really explain anything just grumbles about why he thinks CD's are crap. There's no evidence or comparison to any other format or even a break down of a sound wave.TSH-Tim wrote:Not a huge fan of Funktion One but Tony explains the whole MP3 thing![]()

Re: Where do you buy your (digital) tracks?
if ANYONE can do a blind (deaf infact) test in a club, where i play a .wav or an .mp3 of the same song and they can tell me which is which i would be hugely surprised.

Re: Where do you buy your (digital) tracks?
me personally, probably not.
if i couldnt see which one was being played, maybe i could hear a difference, but the crucial thing is i wouldnt know what that difference meant.

Re: Where do you buy your (digital) tracks?
he comes across as bit of a prune tbh. the dj orientated clubs and bars that use funktion 1 are usually dance music focussed... 320s and 256s sound good, perhaps not ultimate perfect, but no way they sound as bad as the internet makes out.TSH-Tim wrote:Not a huge fan of Funktion One but Tony explains the whole MP3 thing![]()

i think that guy would have a stroke if he saw what ive played on his systems.. when i used to dj at wire and faversham in leeds (both funktion 1) i played a mixture of 320s, 256s, Wavs and Aiff's, whatever format the track was in when i got it, thats how it stayed. if ive got a 256, like balls am i going to pay to get a 320 for a marginal audio difference.. and when i drop an acapella it will be as low as 128 (but the beat its over would be a 320).. this is due it being hard to find good quality acapellas though, id use 256 or more if i could... but yeah, me, i cant hear much difference, and i dont think 99% of the crowd can either. the crowds happy, ive enjoyed myself, the promoters happy - everyones a winner. except that guy from funktion 1 and the audiophile stood at the back stroking his beard.
i can only think of one time when i played a track that sounded awful, and that was a track id put on while me n the next dj swapped over, i kind of reached the end of my set and had to unplug loads of shit etc and he wasnt ready to hop on so had to fill a couple of minutes whilst we sorted ourselves out so i just grabbed a cd and stuck it on, it was quite unprofessional anyway to not have a song ready for that. track was lower than 192 for sure, dont know why it was on cd or in my bag but it was. but anyway, ive learnt my lesson now.
Also - i get annoyed when unsigned artists email me Wav files - as if the quality of their mastering and mixdown is mindblowing enough that i need the full Wavlova with sugar on top. 320s will suffice. At the other end of that, mind, it annoys me more when i get a good track through and its 128, never playing that out (unless its an acapella, of course..

What in the fuck is he talking about? Most recording studios don't even have that recording capability, not to mention the fact that that would make every song take up 100+ MB. Humans can't hear higher than around 21khz, so how is CD quality anything less than great?24 bit depth and 96khz minimum

vinyl is detrimental to audio. it is perceived in a good way but it is detrimental none the less.TSH-Tim wrote:Let me ask you this then.... can you tell the difference between cd & vinyl ?64hz wrote:if ANYONE can do a blind (deaf infact) test in a club, where i play a .wav or an .mp3 of the same song and they can tell me which is which i would be hugely surprised.
