"And this is forthcoming...give it a few months"
It's not really a thing of the tunes coming out too slow anymore (compared to how it was a few years ago), maybe the problem is everyone hears the music too early, over exposure?
It's all to easy to download a set with banging fresh tunes nowadays. Would you prefer if we held the new tunes back a bit more huh?

It's long when you can hear a tune on a mix you dl'd or on radio only to wait time to see a big dj with the right dubplates playin them on a big rig the way its meant, especially truer if your not living in London, can't go FWD every week.
It's more producers faults than DJs cos they can give out tracks that aren't even completely finished, get people bare hype about it then wait for the release. DJs are just gonna play whatever they get their hands on.
edit: Having said that there are quite a few little start up labels popping up all the time.

Even more true if you're living in northern Finland, Last year I heard a mighty fifteen minutes of Dubstep from a speaker system that did not belong to me or my acquaintances.cogi wrote:It's long when you can hear a tune on a mix you dl'd or on radio only to wait time to see a big dj with the right dubplates playin them on a big rig the way its meant, especially truer if your not living in London, can't go FWD every week.
It felt very nice.

i agree with what your sayin elementalism all seems very longggggg.....think Chef is right to though, over exposure is definatley happening, we hear a skream set with nearly all dubplates and we expect to be able to buy them all, i guess this just aint viable though.
it surprises me loads how little people arent beggin for tunes to be released, certain things ill never understand is stuff like the magnetic man stuff apparently never gonna get a release, that is fuckin crazy! who benefits from this?? after they stopped gettin rinsed by the big dj's (after 2 or 3 months) we'll never hear'em again apart from shitty quality on a rinse set with a dj chattin all over it.
JOKES!

To everyone in this thread - it's not your decision what tunes come out and what tunes don't. You don't have a right to own this music just because you like it.
People don't need 'good reasons' to hold their own productions back; they made them, it's their decision, and they don't have to justify it to anyone.

You're on about the exact fucking track I was talking about.DeepThought wrote:true say!Bob Crunkhouse wrote:things ill never understand is stuff like the magnetic man stuff apparently never gonna get a release, that is fuckin crazy!

@ thc - Read what I said before you post, I'm not gonna explain myself again.
@ Chef - Nah, but if the reason that every track is being held back is because there ain't enough labels with money behind them, then I'm 200% up for starting a new label.
I remember what it was like when I first started checking for dubstep, and things are getting quicker but it seems that either there's a lack of label support, or producers are holding their stuff back - and it's frustrating.
Big up Finndubs, Lengers and the other heads who've been in touch with 320s, I'll be in touch soon!

OK. Here's a stat for you. Every track on youngsta's recent dubstep allstars 4 mix is now out, apart from one headhunter track. Most of the stuff in Hatcha's mix is now out as well, apart from four or five bits.Elementalism wrote:

So there's definitely not a lack of label support.
What gets me partly about this thread is just the complete ignorance of what it takes to run a label, and how much effort goes into it. Getting a track out there is not as simple as just going down a pressing plant and going "bosh, here cut these tunes please".
That's beside the point though. There isn't a lack of label support for this music, and most of the tunes you love will see the light of day eventually. You might just have to wait a while. That's really not such a hardship

Honestly, you answered your own question when you said this - "It's NEVER been about dropping a tune that's been rinsed, especially not in a scene that's growing as fast as the dubstep scene."
That's why big DJs get the exclusives, and that's why they hold them tight till they get released to the public. It's why N-Type is a name, and it's why we're not.. nothing wrong with that. You can't claim that long waits are keeping down sales, because they aren't. The dubstep vinyl market is very healthy. The only reason you could be annoyed is because you don't have the big tunes as quickly as some other people. And that's a bit swag.

PLEASE read what I've written before you go saying that sort of thing, I know you'd like to think that I'm someone you can take for any sort of prick but I'm not.UFO over easy wrote:The only reason you could be annoyed is because you don't have the big tunes as quickly as some other people. Go to page 2 and read my post, and stop typing stuff that you'd like to think I said, you make yourself look dumb.

Just in case you can't see it.Elementalism wrote: You're misunderstanding my point, this isn't about me not being able to get exclusives - I've never tried to. I'm on about the fact that nuff DJs (at one point, it came up in every conversation I had with anyone I chatted to who DJed dubstep) who I've spoken to who are either just getting into the scene or who've been in it for a while has said that tunes come out much slower than in other scenes. I don't care if however many people have replied to this thread don't agree, I reckon that's an issue.
i think this whole dubplate culture thing is a big part of what makes dubstep so great. it keeps things personal, kinda like a family, one that's far less money-based and more relationship-based. dubstep wouldn't be the same without it.
but there can definitely be issues with overexposure and exclusivity, where those dj's who don't know other producers (i used to get really mad about this too) aren't able to keep up with the newest tunes etc.
but this is part of what makes GOING to see the dj's, and listening to people's radio shows INTERESTING, isnt it?
so IMO you have to have some exclusivity to it or else every dj is playing from the SAME pool of tracks and end up sounding the same as each other, or at the very least, far more generic and homogeneous.
and it also encourages people to get into producing their own tunes, starting their own labels, radio shows, live gigs, etc.
so like i said in a way its the dubplate culture/exclusivity that keeps the scene thriving as well as it is. people out in other countries weren't able to easily get the stuff coming out in london, so they made their own, and now the amount of quality producers on the scene has gone 10x or more, same with labels.
its all part of the movement man!
as for labels taking a long time to put out releases, it just comes down to limited time and money. and there aren't enough labels to put out every good tune that comes out.

why do u think this might be? once there not gettin played out by the big names anymore, and if they know they'll sell?UFO over easy wrote: If the Magnetic Man tunes don't come out, it's because the producer(s) have a reason. If they don't want them out, you can't do a thing about it, and you should respect their decision.
i just dont get it
