anyone have experience with the technics rpdh1200 headphones. I was thinking about getting a pair but not too sure how they hold up for
production or DJing.

Working with a AKG 142 HD, extremely satisfied.

Pro
-looks decent
-fits quite well
-clear sound (with a wide range)

cons
-half open
-tends to get a bit warm
-NOT durable, didn't do anything wrong with my headphones and the right ear tends to drop out sometimes, freaking irritating!

Semi-open back you mean? That is actually a plus in my opinion. Gives you truer soundstage. Not good for the library or djing etc but great for the studio. Actually I have drop outs with my AKG's as well. That is pretty shit for the money you pay, or I paid anyway but it is fixable.

Yesterday I ordered a pair of AKG k518's. But they were some limited edition, is there any difference except for the
colours?

just got my pair of AKG K240 MKII's this morning, first impressions are really good.

whoever said the bass is decieving or lacking, I don't know how because it sounds perfectly proportioned to me. I chose these over the HD25's because i want them for production and it doesnt seem like i'm going to be disappointed

Sony MDR-V6

Pros
- good frequency response (supposedly 5-30,000 hz)
- good isolation
- broadcast (radio & tv) standard for several decades
- they last for fucking ever

Cons
- a bit tight fitting... physical fatigue can come into play after a few hours
- everyone loves to hate on 'em
- supposedly the faux-plasti-vinyl covering on the cups wears off. it certainly did on my MDR-600's... but my MDR-V6's haven't shown the slightest sign of wear over the past year.

Price
- £45 used
- £80 - 100 new
NICE, i was hoping someone was rocking these so they could let me know whats up, i know nothing about headphones. yeah the covering on my pair are almost completely gone, i got mine used. these headphones will make your ears soar.

I have no qualms with them other than the fact that they hurt to wear for long periods of time. They sound good to me, which isnt really saying much. :e: :e: :e: :e: :e: :e:

I use the sony mdr-v6's and I think they are a great buy for the money. I also noticed after doing more research that the mdr's come in different mm size ranges (different sized cans). The cheap ones are the 30mm mdr-v6's. I really like the sound it seems really accurate and you can hear the bass. and all the reasons listed in the quote above I concur with. I got mine for like 60-70 $usd on amazon.

i have the akg k240s. I don't like producing on headphones but when I have to I find the mixes turn out ok. I'll cross reference them with my mackie's and notice things in the mix I didn't hear on them. Still not a good replacement for monitors tho.

I prefer semi-open back or even a full open back but you NEED a headphone amp if you go with full open back.
I just use the headphone amp in my Mackie mixer and it's ok.

A lot of you guys are using AKG K240, but which one?

http://www.amazon.com/AKG-Acoustics-K-2 ... B0001ARCFA
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/7 ... ional.html

^these 2 are the same aren't they? Why are the pics different though?

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/5 ... MK_II.html

^ this one is newer and much more expensive. from your experiences, what's the difference compared to the older K240?

Thanks.

The pic on B & H is wrong, from the title it should be the gold k240s but is showing the newer mkIIs.

I haven't listened to the mkIIs but the k240s I have (gold) are nice and uncoloured with extended highs and un-hyped bass so your mixes will translate decently on others systems.

The more I use my akgs, the more i enjoy them.
