Sierra Le-Owned: A Mt Eden Remix Comp

Post by JemGrover » Tue Jan 25, 2011 6:10 pm

Off the back of The Dub Lemon's hijack remix of Mt Edens' Sierra Leone http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=180696
A couple of the DSF Production forum regulars propose we get a little competition going to remix Freshly Ground's track "I'd Like".

Open to all genres, providing you use a legally obtained copy of the original track. (I won't ask, you don't tell, got it? Good)
Comp to begin within the next few days, and I'll update this as and when decisions are finalised.

You have until the 7th of Febuary to get a track done. Hit me up on Soundcloud with a Private track or PM me with the link to it.
Hopefully this shouldn't conflict if you're also entering the Sample Pack comp, which also finishes on this date (makes it more likely you'll vote in both)

Now's your chance to show those Eden boys how it's really done.
Le-own or BE Le-owned.

I'm up for it. It's also worth noting that this isn't being run for the purposes of financial gain or any kind of distribution of the original source material. This is purely in the name of parody/satire.

I say scrap the comp idea cos this isn't getting much heat XD we should all just make our remixes and then post them in this thread to share. Make it more of a community movement than a comp...

I'm gonna start now :p

Yeah, had a feeling it wouldn't really take off. I may well do that though. Can't say I'll start this second as I'm knackered and term starts tomorrow, haha
Oh well, at least the samplepack comp is still on.

By the way it's possible to buy any of Freshly Ground's back catalogue in download format for about 60p per track off their official website here http://www.freshlyground.com/

Only 192kbp but it's better and cheaper than itunes and their music seems to be hard to track down.

Le-own or BE Le-owned.
Drop your name if you'd like to get involved so we can get an idea of initial figures and ground rules.

Need to establish
. Genres, BPM and time limit?
. You'll all PROMISE to obtain a legal copy of "I'd like". Seriously. You can't just Google...Oooh I don't know... "Mediafire Freshly Ground I'd Like" or something. [Disclaimer, blah blah blah]

So, who's up for it?
I think this is a good idea as it gives the original artist credit which I was previously unaware of.
I will probably give it a whirl.
Sure

Dood I'm down. Don't drop this comp idea just yet. Give it some time to get rolling.

I'll do it if there isn't a genre/bpm rule.

Same ^ I see no need for genre bpm restrictions. Why?

agreed that there shouldn't be one
not that i'd be doing anything groundbreaking in the slightest
but restrictions like that are gross regardless

Im working onn quite a bit of other stuff at the moment, but if I run into some writers block I'm totally up for it.

Just to be true to the contest/vibe of the remix ill finish it in 48 hours or less. That's obviously 47 hours longer than mt eden spent on it, but I figure it'll be a good exercise in pumping tunes out like they do!

Which will give it the classic Mount Eden sound! no EQ, no creativity, just balls to the wall of sound!
