Where Do You Find It?

Post by djrefuge » Thu Jan 27, 2011 8:49 am

When the 5th anniversary of Dubstep Warz occurred recently, I cued up the mix for old times sake. Needless to say, I was completely blown away. Just knotted stomach, teary eyed blown away. I remembered, again, why I fell in love with dubstep in the first place. The raw energy and emotion of those early tunes - hearing Midnight Request Line caned all night and ending the entire mix with Qawwali - it just took me back. I didn't know then that it would get harder every single day to find tunes of the same quality.

I'm totally fine with "brostep" and "post dubstep" and all of that, but I just don't care for it. If you do, great. But what I want, what I've always wanted, is the kind of dubstep that was showcased on Dubstep Warz. The real, quality, emotional tunes, with enough space to breathe. No overdone synths or annoying screeching sounds. Nothing "pop" or "electro". Just that deep, underground sound.

Does it exist anymore? I know it does. The problem is I just don't know where to find it. Can you guys suggest any blogs or websites that push this sound? If there are newcomers sticking to the roots, I feel like I'm missing them. It's got to be out there.

Blogs? Artists? Labels?

Shiiit! Youngsta is exactly what I was looking for. I have almost the entire Deep Medi catalogue on vinyl, but hadn't really checked into Youngsta or Cyrus - great! Also, GetDarker and SubFM are bookmarked now for daily viewing. Can't tell you how happy I am. Thanks for the help!

Any other suggestions? This is like my dubstep renaissance - haha.

get yourself down to DMZ if you live in the UK
