Traktor
Has anyone used this to play out live? If so what did you think, I am toying with the idea myself but a little voice is telling me not to trust it.

The sync button allows more beer consumption.

Re: Traktor
Well the idea is just to get the prog to do most of the work and get kids up to have a go at playing out themselves, it's to raise money for a children's hospice. The kids are too young to drink but too old for jelly and ice-cream or teeny-bopper-discos so am trying to think of something different and 'young'. The oldest is about 15 but most of them are 12/13.Jak The lad wrote:The sync button allows more beer consumption.
Basically want something an idiot child can use and get the belief he's an awesome DJ.

Re: Traktor
traktor is pretty good imo, i have traktor and a numark stealth control and it does pretty much everything i need... also the sync button is good for when im being lazy but i prefer not to use it as it feels like cheating

Re: Traktor
Traktor makes mixing easier--if you already know how to DJ. But even then there’s a learning curve, initially. You have to program cue points, beat grids, etc, that’s hours of work behind the scenes...
It doesn’t “do it for you” in no sense, and it really irritates me when people think that.
Even if you use timecode plates, and just stream from the box, you’re still learning to mix by hand, which is no different from using records, except the audio is coming from inside the comp, not the tables.
Nobody’s going to walk up to Traktor and in 15 mins “Feel like an awesome DJ” … Frankly I think its easier to learn on 12”s… But again, easier to DO once you already KNOW it, on Traktor...

Hmmm... I'll have a look for something even simpler then!

dont look for simplicity, look for what best fits your needs and wants. have a play around with it if you can. i'm a vinyl purist, but i play around on my mates with control vinyl sometimes, and thats quite good. not really used serato so cant make a comparison

You're kidding right? Thousands of big names use Traktor for live sets.

That's my point, Einstein. These kids are not big names are DJs.AxeD wrote:You're kidding right? Thousands of big names use Traktor for live sets.
Re: Traktor
I'm confused. will you be teaching them to mix using decks and control vinyl or on a pc/laptop? If the latter then I would suggest virtual dj. It's very user friendly for anyone new to the concept of mixing.

Re: Traktor
If your looking to teach someone on a program similar you can do it really easily on serato!

Re: Traktor
The budget is my not friend though, GWA, but the best idea I have heard so far... I'll see if anyone can donate one for an evening
Basically it's a bunch of kids who are terminally ill and I just want them to have a go at the most basic of mixing, just to get a feel for it, doesn't matter if it's not the real thing - the most important thing is that it's fun and easy for them to use / pick up. If it was photography I wouldn't throw Adobe Photoshop at them but Picasa or something where all manipulation can be done with a couple of wizards and slide-rules, that's the kind of thing I am after.
Does that make sense?
Googling virtual DJ in a bit.
Of course all software must be easily available on rapidshare :O

Re: Traktor
i reckon the control vinyl or at least that new traktor thing with the wheels (dunno what its called). the physical side of having the knobs there will be easier for them i reckon. it beats looking at a screen, clicking with a mouse.

Give them a set of 1210's and make them double drop every tune.
Mega jkz.
Virtual DJ or Deckadance is great if you have a midi controller with it. I used to have this before I got my decks http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 8181wt_910
I paid about £30 for mine which was used and honest to god it was so much fun and stupidly easy.
Its great because it's not just like you're showing a kid a screen and trying to explain what everything does,
everything is there on this tiny midi controller, crossfader, pitch, EQ's, sync buttons, track selector thingy and all the other stuff I've forgot about.
I'd recommend this also to anyone who's wanting to start DJing but doesn't know weather to splash out bare money on proper equipment. I honestly had so much fun on that simple little badboy.
Edit: and I also got a free copy of Virtual DJ too with mine

Re: Traktor
You didn't say anything about kids who need help with their mixing in your first post. My comments was about:firky wrote:That's my point, Einstein. These kids are not big names are DJs.AxeD wrote:You're kidding right? Thousands of big names use Traktor for live sets.
Anyway Traktor is probably a little to advanced in this case, support the idea though.firky wrote:Has anyone used this to play out live? If so what did you think, I am toying with the idea myself but a little voice is telling me not to trust it.![]()
