The best monitors possible for $1000

Post by LordBid » Thu Jan 27, 2011 2:33 pm

Thats right, my trusty Behringer 302's have served me well in learning the art of the mix. They kind of suck balls for low end frequency response, and frequency response in general. Im probably going to be getting a student load here pretty soon so I am looking in investing in some new monitors. Thought I would ask here as well as search around and see what is the best set of monitors I could get for 1k US. Also If I can get a sub I want that too. please if anybody has seen any good deals post a link or something or if you have any awesome recommendations.

they're $600 each now (used to be $500 each which is why i was looking them up) but worth the extra $200.

I was looking in this price range but ended up getting hs80m as I thought they were as good as anything that cost a grand IMO. You could even grab a sub and not go over a grand.

there are no objective answers to subjective questions. look at sweetwater, see what costs around $1k, and try them out.

at that PP, i've been really impressed by why dynaudio offers. Some love the genelecs, some dig the events, some dig the adams, etc, etc, etc.

Heh what do you suggest, close the forum? Almost all the topics here are subjective. You are right tho. Ultimately you have to decide for yourself.

@me? I am not using a sub with my Yams at the moment. Yamaha makes several that match up for a fair price. I think even a decent hi-fi sub would do the trick. Sub is sub right?

Don't forget that room treatment is just as important as good monitors.

THIS 100%

i used to own adam a7's before i sold them to pay for rent. I've got to say in my opinion the hs80m's (the monitors i own now) sound so much better, the all the frequencies sounds so crisp and clear and i dont think you'd need a sub with these really.

I've got to say though i've tested the adam a7x's in GAK and they are a marked improvement on the a7's. You should really go around and audition some monitors, look at what their frequency ranges are as well, some smaller monitors dont really pack a punch in the bass department. My yam hs80m's cost me £349 new, i think theyre a steal at the price!

Yeah I happened to find mine at a local shop for their big annual sale it was pretty close to cost. I paid 550 usd for the pair. I want to get a sub but it's remarkable how clean the low end is on them. Most monitors in the price range sound like mud down there if you can pick up bass at all. You have to keep in mind you are doing electronic music when you read the reviews. It's why the Mackies are legendary in electronic music and not so much in the rest of the industry. Adams and Dyns I think would be a better choice if you are doing a lot of recording.

I 2nd everything said about hs80m - you dont need to spend more for accurate sound.

Before you think cheaper is better and that you should spend money on a sub in a untreated room, make sure to browse other boards like gearslutz...
