Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for JANUARY, 2011
@JamieCypher I'm really diggin your beat, I dont really know what to suggest, but maybe try playing around with the wobble like, having it shift through different effects etc, as it goes, maybe have like a call and answer thing between lows and mids, I dunno, just throwing ideas out, I'm kinda amature, (<-- understatement.)
@malleus Your Track Is awesome, seriously, theres nothing to suggest, i love the rythym, and your bass is interesting and just the right amount of dirty, sorry for the lack in usefull input, but simply, Im impressed by your track.
I've only been at this for a few months, and I'm still deep in the learning process of making my own sounds etc.
But the one outstanding comment(s) I recieved was about the bass not being fat enough,
I talk too much, so here
Soundcloud
any critism is appreciated, its not a song so much, as practice, so all and any advice goes towards the learning.
Cheers.

@Notbellm - the synths are interesting, but they seem a bit fragile to me
@Sonic Arts - good vibes, liking the lead synth. nothing out of place so far
@Malleus - interesting ideas, but i think the synths need some tweaking/more presence
this is one i began several days back; towards the end it gets a bit shiddy [where i left off]. the violins are still out of place but i'm working on it

So heres my first tune. made all the sounds myself! except the violins... and i was wondering if you have any ideas to make the bass more filthy...the bass at 56 seconds. when i bring it down lower it gets scratchy, so i have to keep it at a higher pitch, but then it dosent sound filthy. Any ideas?

Notbellim - Most is very interesting, the hollow echo effect may be a bit over done though
Voodeedoo - Nice mellow feel, would like to hear the vocals a bit more. Found myself straining to hear them and missing other elements
Jamiecypher - Liked the bass but would like to hear a little more melody (repetition) out of it, waited for segment to come back but they didn't seem to
This is my first attempt at this. Know that it may be a bit gimmicky but wanted to see if I could make elements work. Criticisms is appreciated.

haha they're purposely very quiet; i'm putting in a lot of subliminal stuff in itAlt Fire wrote:Voodeedoo - Nice mellow feel, would like to hear the vocals a bit more. Found myself straining to hear them and missing other elements

@Sonic Arts
Appreciate the kind words. I'm working in a bit more personality still so hopefully it won't disappoint. As far as your track is concerned its got great flow and to work out that snare issue I'd say you need a one with more pop and a bit more reverb to bring out the wetness of the hit. If you're having trouble finding good snares hit me up on AIM or something and I can help you out. MalleusDUB@aim.com...btw your sub is so full sounding and the end has a great 16bit feel. Well done!
@Superginger
Thanks for the production compliment man. Made me feel like I'm doing shit right for a change haha. I tend to nitpick my EQ a bit so hopefully it pays off. I feel like certain basses are too thin still which I'm working on. I added some feedback on your soundcloud for the track you posted. Cheers!
@Notbellm
Let me give you a big fucking THANKS my friend. Useful input isn't necessary if you're being so kind
On your track I have to say I'm a huge fan of the dark atmosphere it puts you in, and that bass is nice and filthy. Kinda reminds me of Substep Infrabass but better mixed though your track. I have to say you might need to turn down the high EQ on that one high end bubble sounding synth that hits. Starts to clip in my headphones. Also I can barely hear any sub bass but that could be because I'm simply using headphones and no good monitors. Keep it up man, LOVE the feel of it.
@Voodeedoo
Thank you and I totally agree. I'm currently tweaking them to push them out wider in the mix cuz they sound a bit weak to me too. Your track is very hip hop and I think if you got someone to spit over it or got someone to let you remix something that fits the feel of it, it would be a great tune!
@Woodllem
Remember to give at least 3 people feedback before posting your track...courtesy is huge here and helps us all learn. As far as your bass problem I feel like you haven't EQ-ed the track correctly and that bass especially needs more low end and a bit more mid EQ...and probably some compression. Good ideas though. Keep pushing it!
