Ableton... hurr durr I dont know what the fuck is going on with that. gave up after 5 minutes
Cubase... diddnt get much done after spending hours in front of it.
Reason... Seems simple enough, but no VSTs and what the feck is up with the sequencer? rewiring to cubase and pro tools was just too much work
FL Studio... Good, people can get it done and create great sounds but isnt good from an engineering perspective. (Ask someone who uses FL studio what compression is and they will derp)
Pro Tools... ahhh great for recording and mixing in professional studios. a truely powerful program if you know how to use it. Studied this in engineering school. great for cutting drums and sound design. no VST support
Logic... a truely beastly program. just picked this up the other week and I am never going back. its like Pro Tools easy mode. VST support yay
Cubase... diddnt get much done after spending hours in front of it.

I'm going to be in Sound Recording Technology when the spring semester starts. From the sound of it, they're going to make me give up FL9 and start using pro tools or logic
Re: My DAW is better than yours! (Friendly DAW Wars debate)
I know precisely what you mean about Cubase. ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO JUST OPEN AND USE! Some simple stuff is just all over the place and by the time you've found what your looking for (if you ever do) you've forgotten what the fuck your were going to use it for.MUT3 wrote:Ableton... hurr durr I dont know what the fuck is going on with that. gave up after 5 minutes

Re: My DAW is better than yours! (Friendly DAW Wars debate)
FL is my weapon of choice but honestly, anything after version 9.0 is fuhkd! why do they have to take a perfectly tuned program and ruin it by takiing out great features?!?!

(All in friendly spirit, but I refuse to believe that anyone who hasn't been to cubase military school would actually bother to learn it well enough to make good dubstep tunes.)

I never used it pre-9. What features did there used to be?weedcali wrote:FL is my weapon of choice but honestly, anything after version 9.0 is fuhkd! why do they have to take a perfectly tuned program and ruin it by takiing out great features?!?!
Re: My DAW is better than yours! (Friendly DAW Wars debate)
it was just simpler for me. maybe because i started out on FL6 who knows. the 'swap panels' feature for example. its a small thing but i liked it and i prefer it to help my workflow. editing automation levels in 9.7 is lame. 9 and older is cool still.
Re: My DAW is better than yours! (Friendly DAW Wars debate)
oh shit, what is up with editing automation levels in 9.7? I stopped fucking with the 9 betas due to some incompatibility issues between projects. I saw in the piano roll there is some sick looking editing capabilities in the note block itself, looked like something I was wishing for back in the late 90's. No idea if the implementation is on point. I wish they'd just release 10 already. All this beta shit is a drag. If the betas didn't expire I wouldn't mind, but setting up fruity every couple of months, having to instantiate all my vst instruments and fx each time is fucking bollocks.
Re: My DAW is better than yours! (Friendly DAW Wars debate)
hard to explain. i should just make a video talking shit about it

I use Logic Pro 9 rewired with reason 5 but I make the kind of Dubstep that most people label, 'Brostep'. Everyone knows the downfalls of Reason. I rewire reason because of the powerful grain-table synth, Malstrom. It has a very powerful, unique sound. I also have FL Studio which I hate, but there is one type of plug-in that FL has that does not come default in any other DAW called gross beat. There are many VST's and AU's out there that a very similar to gross beat but i have always preferred the latter. Logic is my main software and its just because I started off learning on it back in 2002 and never looked back. Did you guys know that Logic used to be called E magic Logic Platinum and could run on windows? Its funny because even then it was a powerful DAW.
One thing that I love about Logic is that there are endless ways to customize the program using the environment window. I am not sure on what other programs have this kind of option but every program i have used hasn't or i could not find it. Also Logic pro can be used to put music to video as it supports videos within the sequencer. In fact it has become an industry standard option for video/audio synchronization.

Gross Beat is not a default plugin bundled with flstudio, it must be purchased separately, unless of course, you are using the crack of flstudio?

All my FL Studio people stand UP!
Believe it or not, I transferred from Logic TO FL 9. That's right, I went "backwards," as most people would think. The reality of it is, Macs are way too expensive, and my MacBook Pro wasn't giving me anywhere near the processing power I needed. Logic is an extremely good and powerful DAW, don't get me wrong. I still dive into it occasionally, but to be completely honest, I thought it was too bland and bleak. Doing things that should be very simple tasks were actually challenging at times, like producing drums using .wav files. Going through Ultrabeat is a bitch, with all the envelopes and other effects that I would much rather do by using Logic's actual compressor, stereoizer, and other plugins. Making drum packs in the EXS24 was also a bitch to do, because I had to go through the process of finding the various sounds I wanted, arranging them in the specific order I wanted, and then saving the EXS24 states and finding them later.
With FL, producing drums is the most pain-free thing in the entire world. All I have to do is drag and drop the .wav file I want into the sequencer, add as many different sounds I want, and I'm off and running. FL also isn't a "dumbed-down" program at all; I believe it is the perfect balance between user-friendliness and functionality.

O ye your right lol. Well i still need to keep my FL to use it cuz its a windows based VST and I would need an AU. Unless you can wrap windows VST's into AU's? or would it not really be worth doing?nowaysj wrote:Gross Beat is not a default plugin bundled with flstudio, it must be purchased separately, unless of course, you are using the crack of flstudio?
