iZotope Stutter reviews/alternatives?

Anyone used this product yet? Doesn't seem to be much about it floating around yet. I've never seen anything quite like it, but it seems like the price is a little steep. Anyone know if it's worth it? Or if there are any cheaper alternatives?

In summery, this looks like it is just barely getting up to the level of functionality of the finger and artillery, and still sounds like cookie cutter sounds. But what do I know?

You may be right about Stutter, i've never used anything similar to compare it to, so I wouldn't really know. Never heard of the finger or artillery, but I'm looking into em. They seem pretty interesting. Would recommend either one over the other? I'm more interested in just fucking with my sound than playing live, to be honest.

I have the demo to it and it seems to be a bit off. It doesn't sync perfectly, and when you release the key it's very hard to time it like you want to. Maybe I just didn't play around with it enough.

Naw, I have no real interest in these things. I wish somehow they offered way more control over the sound, while being one keypress simple. Pretty much a contradiction. I'll stick to editing audio in a timeline for the time being.

seems like a cool idea.
if there are that many bugs though, it will kill the product obviously.

I would say its more useful for a live performance / remix. Other than that you can use Glitch and get similar effects for free but what do I know.

It is a live effect for sure, but you could use it in production if that's your thing. I'd rather manually do all my stuttering and edits.

we already have glitch and the finger, why would anyone need this?
i don't really like this kind of plug-in. a few years ago when i first listened to breakcore those ultra complicated amen edits seemed like the work of a wizard to me. i remember spending hours cutting samples to achieve certain sounds, figuring out fx chains and whatnot.
nowadays i just load up the finger and mash some buttons, or if i don't mind it's recognizable sound just use glitch. it takes away the magic and rocket science aspect of production.

Wow i'm glad I posted this. never knew such alternatives existed. and yeah I see how it's alot cooler to do this stuff by hand, but until I really need that sort of flexibility, why not just use the software? Also, thanks a lot for the reference to glitch. Gonna be spending alot of time with that this weekend.

I played with this a little bit, and you can definitely change the settings so that it releases at the end of a bar, so you don't have weird timing issues. It was a lot of fun to play with but I haven't found a really practical application for it yet.

Then again, I haven't really messed with many of the settings and used presets, but it could be pretty nifty if you wanted to add some variety to a DJ set or resample a synth with some crazy glitching on it.

Put everything behind a limiter for safety, just dont actually let it effect your mix. Anyone whos ever accidentally set off a feedback loop knows why though.

yeah no, they've got some wild bitcrushing + gain modules that will blow your tweeters across your room like ping pong balls. Purely for safety sake.
