What makes a good producer?

Post by FuzionDubstep » Wed Feb 02, 2011 8:43 am

I mean in terms of football, sports, singing dancing etc.... you are born good really, and i know you can practise but at the end of the day for these things your either good or your not, whereas with music we all have the same oppurtunitys in terms of software and we all have an even chance at making music... so what makes a producer good is it creativity, practise or what?

please answer i think we might get some good answers here :)

Being over confident and not being a perfectionist would be good place to start as long as you are a good learner! Not being scared of taking risks is also handy.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Come on guys, this is a perfectly legitimate question. Let's not alienate another hapless new forum member by trolling the shit out of him.

Dedication and practice is what makes people good at anything. If you do it every day you will eventually get good at it.
Creativity comes with practice, once you have the ability to say "I want to do this" and to be able to do it straight away without having to learn from scratch, only then will you be truely creative.

Remember also that some people will always be better at certain things than others, but if you properly dedicate your something and have a real passion for it then you can do anything.
Just be aware that no matter how good you are there will always be someone better, so judge what you create based on your own expectations and not anyone elses.

The main thing a good producer needs to know is the difference between guidelines and rules.
