Drone
Grind
Sludge
Tech
Doom
Thrash
Noise
Glam
Black
Art
Stoner
Death
Nu
Progressive
Melodic
Industrial
Psychedelic
NWOBHM
Math
Core
Funeral

Those are some of the main metal sub-genres, could name as many again if we're getting pedantic. Combine two or more of those names together I guarantee there will be at least a handful of bands playing it.

to be honest, it is probably your lack of knowledge on the genre that means you can't appreciate the diversity and I really dont mean that in a dickish way at all, to anyone who actively listens to and enjoys metal I'm certain that they can identify how diverse those bands are, obviously there are going to be similarities in all of them otherwise they would be entirely different genres... to me it would be like saying you can't tell the difference between mala and skrillex becasue they both make electronic music at the same tempo, just because there are common trends doesn't mean there aren't also massive differences

i'm sure that speech wont help you see the difference so here is some battle metal...

Couldn't agree more, the same goes with a lot of music I guess. The only bands that have ever come close to metal that I like is At the drive-in or Rage,

Neither of whom i would consider to be metal (though they are both quality)

Quite like a bit of Black Metal to be honest, not so much into the whole Satan and Corpse Paint type stuff but some of the Dark Ambient/Black Metal hybrid stuff is actually pretty good.

METAL. I ironically was really into punk for a long time but metal always made me cringe

This pretty much sums up my attitude to traditional 'rock' and pretty much all metal. I still occasionally enjoy some of the stuff I used to listen to, but a lot of it just seems a bit shit now.

Not to say that I don't like rock or guitar music. In fact I still really like a lot of stuff. But it's stuff that I wouldn't have been into back in the day. It probably mostly falls under 'indie'; a label which I think get an unfairly bad rep due to chart pop-indie trash like Kings of Leon, and the stnuc who are associated with Pitchfork which despite being sometimes a bit shite as far as reviewing goes, the content that they review is often pretty good.

I would say that House is the most diverse genre
I'd say hip hop is.
I'd say rap is okay at first, then that gets old and fucking boring so you move to hip hop, then you realize hip hop isn't doing anything new, just talks about the same shit on how "rappers on the radio aren't real" over and over again with 4 to five rhymes in one piece which makes no sense because they have no idea what the words even mean.

Anything that has to do with a bunch of rhyming without any sort of actual singing or without the "artist" playing an instrument while spitting a verse is just plain dull imo.
how many artists in dubstep play instruments?, you see the slippery slope you go down when you start making these types of comments?...and there is an artistry to 'spitting a verse'...you try doing it without sounding like a plum...

are you well versed in hip hop...cos you can't really say its not diverse without knowing anything other than MTV base lol

all i gotta say is

i feel bad for people who don't like metalocalypse simply because they don't understand the culture of metal

i used to be a bigtime metal head, can barely listen to it anymore (although i kept all my cds) and that show is HILARIOUS.

Everyone would get down to hard trance at a bumpkin free party in Norfolk, it's infectious.
