Re: Secret Ninja's Night Out: *WIN YOURSELF A DJ SLOT!!*
yeah, ill chop off the last song then haha, no problem!
Re: Secret Ninja's Night Out: *WIN YOURSELF A DJ SLOT!!*
Could you give an idea of the time slot the DJ may get to play? It will help me decide what 10 mins to get down. I can make a 10 min intro for some head nodders or something a bit later in the night.
I have the weapons ready.

Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

EDN said it depends on experience & style where your slot would be....serox wrote:Could you give an idea of the time slot the DJ may get to play? It will help me decide what 10 mins to get down. I can make a 10 min intro for some head nodders or something a bit later in the night.

So for yourself, I would suggest putting together tracks geared towards the peak of the night.

10 minutes seems way to short to judge someone on their skills as a dj

I think it's more to get an idea of your style of music rather than your skill as a dj?DZA wrote:10 minutes seems way to short to judge someone on their skills as a dj

Is that really a good strategy when your trying to book DJs for a night though?pete bubonic wrote:I think it's more to get an idea of your style of music rather than your skill as a dj?DZA wrote:10 minutes seems way to short to judge someone on their skills as a dj
Soooo important to be able to properly mix if your gonna get on a stage, of course selection is #1 priority, but flow is an even tie IMO.
Seriously, wish I was in the UK, Id enter this shit.

I say it again, you guys are kinda lucky that country is on the smaller side, it keeps your scenes close and tightnit enough for something like this to happen...pete bubonic wrote:not my call. just think that's what the OP is gunning at. About a year ago, I used to live round the corner from headhunter, hyetal, peverelist, pinch and phaeleh (pev and pinch moved now).Aquathesis wrote:I say it again, you guys are kinda lucky that country is on the smaller side, it keeps your scenes close and tightnit enough for something like this to happen...pete bubonic wrote:not my call. just think that's what the OP is gunning at. So wait this is a Djing comp based on your tune selection and not your skill? sounds fucking retarded to me

So, has midrange invaded bristol too, or is that list actually representative of the sound out there still?pete bubonic wrote: About a year ago, I used to live round the corner from headhunter, hyetal, peverelist, pinch and phaeleh (pev and pinch moved now).
Re: Secret Ninja's Night Out: *WIN YOURSELF A DJ SLOT!!*
No, not at all, its practical considerations. With the voting system I will need to host these on soundcloud and can't really afford to pay for an premium account JUST for this. As well as during voting people aren't going to listen to 10 (or however many) hour of half hour long mixes.DZA wrote:So wait this is a Djing comp based on your tune selection and not your skill? sounds fucking retarded to me
Anyway 10 minutes should be MORE than enough time to show your DJ-ing quality. Especially if people know that they only have 10 minutes they will get as much in as they can, which leads to a higher level of pressure and more difficult mixes, thus showing djing skill. How slow do you mix dude?
I would have ideally had 15 mins, but its just not practical. So before you go calling anything "retarded" DZA, consider that I might actually have thought a lot about this and chosen this option as the lesser of two evils.

Re: Secret Ninja's Night Out: *WIN YOURSELF A DJ SLOT!!*
There's a lot of kids on the midrange thing now days for sure. Obviously people like Jakes, Komonazmuk, Eddie K have been doing it for a while. They do what they do well, not really for me. But Bristol is pumping out some top quality Dubstep, Kahn's new release on Punch Drunk, 'Helter Skelter' is one of the best actual Dubstep tracks I have heard in ages from anywhere. Worth checking out. And Phaeleh's next release on Soul Motive is quite obviously the fucking lick (in my sig).Aquathesis wrote:So, has midrange invaded bristol too, or is that list actually representative of the sound out there still?pete bubonic wrote: About a year ago, I used to live round the corner from headhunter, hyetal, peverelist, pinch and phaeleh (pev and pinch moved now).
