Re: Things what are exciting for you in.........
Ok, album wise are loving the Shigeto - Full Circle Remixes EP that's just come out. The Mike Slott remix of Relentless Drag is just fucking beautiful to my ears;
I'm making more time in the evenings and weekends to listen to new beats, and going to London night like Streets Of Beige to get my beat scene fix. As such, I'm getting introduced to artists that I wouldn't normally have come across, like Young Montana;
I'm turning off the grid a lot more now and programming my drum hits in by hand, going for that looser feel of stuff. I'm sampling a lot more too, at least 30mins a day through lunch I dedicate to cutting out of old LPs with Audacity. I've also printed out a couple of beginner guides to chord sequences, to teach myself what keys to press go well with what other keys. I've never learnt a musical instrument, so it's a bit harder for me to get my head round things, but I'm getting there.
Processing wise, I've started looking into alternative ways of sidechaining. November last year, I maybe had one tried and tested way of doing it; now I've got 3 that I'm comfortable with and more importantly can understand the differences each one will make to the sound when applied.
VST wise, I've slacked off getting any new ones until I've learnt the ones I've got in and out. A lot of my output in the last fortnight has been 8-bit orientated, so I'm going through the TweakBench set of synths, notably Peach and Toad for leads and glitch effects respectively. Also hammering SupaTrigga, and been bouncing out my tracks live using it as a real time manipulator as opposed to programming in automation.
From my tech house side of things, I've finished my first tune to a standard where I'm comfortable playing it out, and have nearly finished the second (melody tweaks and arrangement aside). Am hoping that this side of things, I should be able to put out a mix CD by June with at least 4 of my own tech house productions on.

learning to play the piano - slowly, but even so. its an enlightening experience, suddenly theory makes so much more sense - scales, chords, etc. are all sticking in my head.
decided to learn to read music too.

For me personally the outlook is bleak. But that encapsulates my life's outlook, it's not exclusive to my producing. And to think that I had started to get into the swing of things, too.

Cubase 6, at a glance it looked like a small step from 5 but under the hood it's fucking awesome and the most rock solid version yet.

The James Blake LP.
Amon Tobin's got an album in the works too.
Some sick DSF producers doing big things too.
2011 is going to be huge

just ordered the dark energy
Re: Things what are exciting for you in.........
wow, you've got to keep us updated on that. When you get it and have some time to spend with it, post up a thread with some soundclips and thoughts on it. It really is entry level modular. It was suggested that they would be releasing other units that would work with it. The future is bright.
Re: Things what are exciting for you in.........
Will do. Yeah the dark time, analog sequencer is also available already iirc.

Finally after 15 years of training in Indian Classical music I will be intergrating it with dubstep and electronica, built a studio just for that , now need to learn these Daws to produce what's been going thru my head all these years with dubstep being a new addition to my reportoire, so much so that I haven't practiced any only to study and learn about producing dubstep in my nice cozy little basement studio, good thing, there is a goddamn blizzard righ freeekn now!
