cool quote from book I'm reading

Post by Recessive Trait » Fri Feb 04, 2011 4:08 pm

actually the original quote is from an interview published in Music Technology magazine, 1988.

"If I can't create a sound I like, I find it very hard to create a song. . . I get inspired by a good sound. . . it gives me a feeling for a rhythm or a melody. The sound's the most important thing."
-Kevin Saunderson

Discuss. And if you don't know who Kevin Saunderson is, you need to find out.

Totally agree with this quote. Always gets me going and motivated when everything locks into place and you have that "magic" going.

What book is this?

the book is called "Generation Ecstasy: Into the world of techno and rave culture" by former Spin magazine editor Simon Reynolds. I highly recommend it, as well as "Altered State: the story of ecstasy culture and acid house" by journalist and club kid Matthew Colin. both great reads that capture the excitement and innovation of the early days.

and in case you are wondering who Saunderson is and what kind of sounds he's talking about, and whether they were influential or not:

Nice quote. What book?

I have a moto, that I'm having tattooed on my neck because it's actually the moto for my company too ... "Chase the Dream". Sort of relates to my hardship and how I grew up to be something.

I also like the quote "You fail miserably several times before you succeed" ... Which I can say from experience is also very true.

Word Recessive. I think a lot of people highly underestimate how important it is to know where the background and culture of the music they are trying to create. Big ups!
