Which DJ's are know for PURE mixing: Who's the badman?
Think selections the main bit, and I don't mind hearing the odd blip if the energy's there to be honest - I'd rather hear a bad enthusiastic mix than a perfect boring one to be honest.
One of my fave dj's for mixes I've nabbed off here is Alex Bk-bk and he keeps it warts and all, but makes good selections and doesn't mind veering out to include other styles, and they generally work well.

vinyl is the easiest imo
Grooves only help to see breakdowns and that's it, they dont help to get the tracks in sync.
Its not like having the bpm flashing in your face and all you gotta do is move the pitch until they're both on the same number, aint being funny but a 5 year old kid could do that, I understand it's to make it easier but where do you draw the line?

But with cdjs once you have the pitch matched you're good to go. There's no continued adjustment like there is with vinyl. As you get nearer to the center of a record the pitch increases, which means, you're constantly adjusting. Being a good DJ you need to know your tunes inside and out, and know which tunes go well toghether.
For me selection =65% Skills on the decks = 35% It's like playing a card game, you can have all the best cards but if don't play them right they don't amount to nothing.
We have to take the risk in order to pull of fast mixes and double drops quickly but when someones been cueing up the tunes for 2/3 minutes and it's still loose like water molecules it doesn't impress me.
I think being a DJ you need to bring people on a journey, with High's and low's, not just one level ------------------- all the way through.
Also I get sent loads of mixes done on a laptop or cd's which is shite in terms of ability, it's ok for compiling tunes or showcasing music but there's no skill involved really when you can see the bpm and all you gotta do is move the pitch until both cd decks are displaying the same bpm.
Put them same dj's in a dance with two 1210's and lets see what happens.

I've never seen a bpm counter that's totally accurate though? I definitely find mixing with vinyl easier. As Parson said, it just feels more natural to be able to physically see the music.
Also, all my studio mixes have been done on shoddy budget numark decks and crap low end cd decks - I could say, 'I get sent loads of mixes done on 1210s - put the same DJs in a dance on a crap pair of numarks and they'll trainwreck the place'

WHO IS THE BEST *TECHNICAL* DJ... not a tough one. I'll make it easy--NO MATTER WHAT TRACKS THEY PLAY. Who has the best skills. fuck all, this isn't hard.

For example, lets take the pioneer cd decks we got up Rinse, I know for a fact the bpms are accurate enough.
I've seen dj's use NO headphones, just adjust the bpms until they matched without even hitting play. When the bpms were sync my man just hit play on the first beat and brought the tune in.....
That's what i'm talking about, no headphones and no skill.

Yeah, I guess so, that's a bit waste. Yeah but Numarks aint the standard DJ medium are they? Numarks aint the decks your gonna find in clubs around the world. I'd expect people to clang on Numarks if they aint used em before. Personaly I'll mix on any decks, me and N-type used to be on radio using bloody Soundlab with the roller pitch on the front!!!
You aint get much more budget or more fucked than that.

Bro, I used to have dusty Kam's for years until I was 16 because mum werent paying for 1210's.
I'd mix like a don on Kam's, go round my mates yard and nearly pull a muscle just trying to slow the platter down because it was so strong and then i'd feel like a tnuc because it just werent working like it did in my bedroom day in day out.
