What does bass look like?

Post by apfrod » Sun Mar 05, 2006 9:18 pm

Hiya dubsteppers!

For those meditating on bass weight...

I don't just mean waveforms and such, but what does bass look like? How does it travel? What shape is it in the air? Waveforms are just graphs after all.

It's like there's a lot more language and images around melodies, rhythms and instruments, but bass in dubstep is so abstract and unreal.

Any visions of bass that you have? Images or feelings that come to mind when dancing, nodding, humming, driving to or making big subbass?

Bass for me is a big movement, it's a distortion and things are blurry!

Ok I give up trying to explain it, there are too many emotions envolved aswell

YES! heavy diagram indeed. It makes me think of water and fluids and stuff. I think of bass as huge solid objects of some kind, I can't get over the idea that bass is cones moving air, and how big they are:

yeah man when its right bass should cause actual visual distortions, I love that feeling when ya eyeballs feel like they might pop out & somones squezzing ya head in a vice :D

to me bass, esp Sub, reminds me of a time when we shared this planet with big big animals, only somthing HUGE can generate that sorta rumble, bass music is like the soundtrack to hunting mammoth innit.

A bit old skool but these two by Robert Motherwell do it for me, and hint at the meditation side of bass too

Now thats in flavour country.
Experienced the jah shaka soundsystem in brixton many moons ago, and the sub woofers he used made me and most every other male in the dancehall suddenly very concious of size. HEAVY.
Silence is more audible than sound
