Re: FINISHED TRACKS FOR FEEDBACK IS NO MORE
Hhmm, well I know there are various perceptions of what a digital dub is but I've always known it as a track that hasn't had any negotiations for distribution or licensing...
Not so much feedback, although it's nice to get it, the only reason I'm 'spamming' is to raise overall awareness of the existence of the track, obviously being essential when properly promoting...
So I'd still post a pre-release in the Music sub forum even if there's no date in place?
Maybe I'll do that, or post a [for your listening pleasure] tag in the Dubs forum Lol

Re: FINISHED TRACKS FOR FEEDBACK IS NO MORE
Please correct me if this isnt correct, but a dub was a dubplate so short playlife press of a tune to get audience feedback (and how it sounds on various systems?) , it then goes for some final mastering and is pressed/released.wirez wrote:Hhmm, well I know there are various perceptions of what a digital dub is but I've always known it as a track that hasn't had any negotiations for distribution or licensing...
but i did notice that the Released and Wip threads spawned a new page each day, i didnt get to listen to the released thread pages but how were the general mixdowns on those tracks?
edit: p.s does anyone do a mix of all the dubs? a live show with a shoutbox may yield some fiedback if it was then copied and pasted onto a thread?

Please note I did say digital dub, which I feel cannot have the same meaning as an analogue dub... The concepts just have to be completely different?Fbac wrote:Please correct me if this isnt correct, but a dub was a dubplate so short playlife press of a tune to get audience feedback (and how it sounds on various systems?) , it then goes for some final mastering and is pressed/released.
But yes, originally a Dubplate was a small batch of test press vinyl sent out from the pressing plant/mastering house to the label/artist for a final check before the full batch of vinyl went out to the distributors... But in the glory days of UKG for example BIG batches of vinyl were made for some tracks that were never signed, such as really popular bootlegs, and these were also called dubs so I think that may have been where the concept of an unsigned track being called a Dub may have come from
A lot of the forum members share dubs to DJ's on the forum and you can find their mixes under the 'Mixes' section on the main board.does anyone do a mix of all the dubs? a live show with a shoutbox may yield some fiedback if it was then copied and pasted onto a thread?
We did have a 'DSF Radio' Ustream that ran for quite a while but the community died, it just didn't really work.
All the decent tracks from the forum usually make it to a decent enough DJ to be on one of the many Dubstep-supporting 'internet pirate' radio stations anyway though
Re: FINISHED TRACKS FOR FEEDBACK IS NO MORE
I realised you ment digital, apologies if the comment came across as insulting/arrogant no offense was ment ^^

what do you think a digital dub should be?

Being new here i dont feel i can properly comment on whats going on. When i came a month ago i noticed the wip and released threads going up by about a page a day. Does this mean that as there is only the wip thread now itl go up by 2 pages a day?

And i do sympatise with you, i liked how there was a process.. wip then released then either to dubs or back to wip. As the writing and structring is quite diffrent to the mixing down and processing i think, and thus you want to be comparing your tracks to others either at the early stage or the later stage.
altho if the dubs section does work out as planned then its like an upgrade. as each track then gets its own thread.

Re: FINISHED TRACKS FOR FEEDBACK IS NO MORE
dubs section seems to be going a tad better, however still about 1/2 the threads have 0 replies

It's still early days yet, also I dont think everything will get feedback, you tend to find that really poor tunes don't get any feedback after even a couple of weeks. The posters will either have to take that on the chin and work harder on the next one, or feedback on bare tunes to get people to do the same for them.bolsty wrote:dubs section seems to be going a tad better, however still about 1/2 the threads have 0 replies
I make music as Forsaken, you can DL all my unreleased (and a couple released) bits here.

yeh i probably should have referred to "views" rather than replies because views means stuff isn't even getting a look in.. but fair points you make regardless

well there's also a lot more traffic there and people who just post there
just like how the feedback thread on this board was originally meant for people who contributed on the production board but ended up with loads of people who only posted in that thread and never contributed anything else

not as a direct response to you, but I want to highlight:bolsty wrote:yeh i probably should have referred to "views" rather than replies because views means stuff isn't even getting a look in.. but fair points you make regardless
there's not a single thread with 0 views and only 26/100 do not have replies. The threads with over 15 views and no replies aren't very good (from what I heard) and I doubt they will get feedback.
