Why Do Dubstep Fans Hate Mainstream so Much?

you mean ex-mate right? lol i swear you could write a fucking huge list of all the arguments brostep lovers make about how their music is sick and how deep tunes are shit and simple, like 'if brostep is so simple and easy why dont you make it' along with 'deep tunes are boring and simple'. therefore by their logic they should themselves make deep tunes 'cause they are so easy to make and simple' then they could become a sick producer, then divide by zero and destroy the dubstep scene and the majority of humaity, sparing datsik and skrillex. then force them to forever mate over and over in a vain attempt to repopulate the earth with a new army of genetically perfect brostep producers and enough inbred sisters to finger while listening to the resulting immense 'filthiness'...

I feel like real underground dubstep is making a comeback at the moment. And I'm saying 'real' in both a snobbish 'fuck brostep' sort of way, and in an inverted snobbish 'fuck your sack of posey shite' sort of way. Golden years dubstep had brains and brawn, and it seems like more & more people/ producers are remembering that. Myself included.

Perhaps the extremes of the scene have become so swollen that they can now be amputated! After all, most of the producers at both ends of the spectrum are really foreign to dubstep anyway. Just opportunists, hijacking its coat tails and selling it down the river. The good part is - we don't have to pay them any attention. Let them make their money, making shite. It's when they start whoring the real dubstep sound that we've got to worry. Which they won't because it isn't commercial. They're irrelevant basically, false idols

Not sure why I'm posting this, I normally ignore this kind of thread. Guess it feels good to be negative in a vaguely positive way.

I've had a load to drink tonight so hopefully the following will make sense, I've just thought of this:

Imagine you're a Ferrari enthusiast, you've had a massive passion for their work ever since they started producing sports cars. The reason you had such passion in the first place was because they put in so much hard work and brought loads of originality to an already saturated market which nobody else seemed to bring.
Now imagine a few years later they bring out a very average car to test the waters, to see if it would sell. This car still has some of the things that make Ferrari great, It still has style and character and whatever magic Ferrari has.
Anyway, this car sells bigtime, people still recognise the Ferrari badge and know that it's something special under the bonnet so it's a winner. They've sold more of these cars than any of their previous cars, and made 3X as much profit as they originally did.
So naturally, it's not within their interests to lose money as a company so they start pumping out generic family cars, to increase profits they buy cheaper parts, spend no money developing unique characteristics to their cars and make them appeal to everyone.
At the end of this there is you, half of you is happy that they are growing as a company and making money, but on the other hand you've lost all respect for them. The passion that connected you with them in the first place has gone, they're not doing anything special or respectable, they left behind everything that was so important to them and which made them stand out from the rest and now are purely in the whole thing for the money.
And then you get bitched at constantly for even hinting that they've "sold out". No matter how much you defend yourself with good reason,there will always be people ignorant enough to say that "they're still the same as they ever where" when infact they only ever heard of them once they was on every TV or radio advert.
And then for the most part the cycle continues.

For the record I don't have an interest in cars or Ferrari, it's just the only thing I could think of whilst smashed.
Hoping to god this makes sense...

do something with your life. make something of yourself based on something YOU created. use YOUR brain to contribute something to this world. At that point you can enjoy music for it's aesthetic value instead of making it some type of lifestyle accessory to show off to your friends.

I can't say it any more plain and simple. If you find yourself mad over the music another human listens to then you are a fucking loser of the worst kind.

I would rather my child listen to absolutely terrible music, than have great taste in music and be a fucking retard chatting shit on a message board. You can turn off bad music, you can't turn off fucking retard.

There's also many who misunderstand the sound aesthetics of Dubstep. For instance, I browsing through Tumblr, and came across a blog titled ''Fuck Yeah Dub - A Filthy Blog about Dubstep''.

This person has not a clue.

These are the people pushing ''dubstep'' to the mainstream. They have no knowledge of bass culture, no interest in our genre's roots. They're misguided, and it's these people that push our scene to diluted nothingness. They drain the soul out of this genre, until it's becomes unfamiliar. This is the mainstream.

Dubstep going Mainstream would only help the genre stay alive and grow.

It's already morphing into something entirely different, something that does not appeal to me, as I fell in love with bass and half time rhythms not mid range, high frequency filth.

I also think that most of these people haven't really invested in a decent soundsystem which is why the brostep, tear-out noise is more favourable as opposed to a sub-bass driven track from Digital Mystikz, Kryptic Minds or Kromestar etc.

I personally think this cuts to the heart of the issue. The deep dubs that most of us on here love are ridden with a sub bass that you need a proper system to get the full effect of. I would venture that the vast majority of "brotstep" listeners are not able to listen to frequencies that hit under the 60hz range. Listening to DMZ tunes cut off at 60hz is like listening to a Beatles track without a bass player imo. Sure you'll hear the music, but it won't be nearly as good, and you'll make judgements based on only a partial view of the whole picture.

This. Anyone who gets bored of the 'popular' dubstep sound is either going to stop listening or dig deeper. Those that do dig will find a wealth of new tunes that are, even to present day, still made in the spirit of old(er) dubstep. Anyone who challenges me on this should check out GetDarkerTV and listen to the dubplates being played on there. The tunes are totally dope and have so much swagger!

At the end of the day though, who are we to say what is good and what isn't? The only valid thing I feel that we can say is whether or not we LIKE the new sound. Going by that, I'm not the biggest fan of the new scene that is emerging, but I do find myself enjoying it at some raves, and some DJs play really tight sets that have that kind of (brostepish) stuff in it. Basically if it works for some people, then it works and I'm going to leave it well enough alone. More power to them for following their dreams.

ive only just started listening to what i called 'dubstep' but after reading all this i now see as brostep , now the only reason i thought it was dubstep is by either the radio DJ telling me it is, or people branding their own music as dubstep. See i dont see the brostep scene taking anything away from dubstep, it just needs to be rebranded as brostep to stop everyone posting the wrong shit everywhere. Dubstep is still the same as it was years ago, nothings been diluted from it, producers have just taken a different spin on it and should have been categorized it under a different genre which it is now (brostep)

either way, i love a bit of brostep aswell as dubstep, and even if it was called shitstep, dickstep, fagstep, it wouldnt stop me liking it cause i just think it sounds good, i dont need to be told its dubstep to like it

so basically before i keep going round in circles , here my angle :

dont let genre branding effect what you like, if it sounds good then listen, thats what it all boils down too, and if people want to keep calling there brostep music dubstep, they are only targeting the wrong audience
