Pkay it sounds alot like you're implying we should like the commercialised tracks regardless of their quality. Just because they're commercial?
If I like a track then I like it, if a Mala track got the number 1 spot on the charts and more views on youtube than Justin Beibers "baby" I'd still like it. If it was a shit song I wouldn't like it, regardless of who it was by or if was an underground track or whatever.
It seems like you think that I only dislike certain songs because they're popular which is really not the case at all

This thread is about dubstep fans. Apologies if you thought any of this was other than a vague brush stroke about the average dubstep fan.

I'm saying your listening experience would be a lot more rewarding if you weren't burdened by worrying about who is #1 on the charts or what other people are listening to.

And that's what I just said. I'm not burdened by who is #1 on the charts or what other people are listening to.

Look at Jungle, Drum n Bass, Garage............... This is why i hate the mainstream.

Look at Dizzee, Kano for example.......... Money seems to ruin musical integrity.

Basically record labels are businesses and they will take a cool sound and make it into something THEY THINK will sell. The people who go commercial tend to ruin the sound and due to its popularity it becomes the norm for other people.

Syin that James Blake and Skream seem to be doin it right. They havent really changed the sound too much.

Rusko and ppl liem that are basically prostitutes

Record Labels arent basically businesses, they are businesses. They're designed to make money to support the label and the artist.

If you don't think a record will sell you're a fucking retard to put it on shelves.

The threads name is void. No proof, how do you know that all dubstep fans, as implied, hate mainstream?

Need source please.

Own opinion on this awful question, I do not hate mainstream. I don't like the generic 'dubstep' that is being cloned by artists and fed to the masses. You talk to people who have been around since the beginning, and feel the scene is evolving in a way they do not like, which is fine, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I think its great that dubstep has been put on the map, good that the demographic has been increased and that more people enjoy it, it just seems a paticular sub genre has become so popular, it detracts the original feel and emotion away from some of the older tunes, many of me and my friends enjoyed. No melody, just as hard and as a crazy a b-line that can be produced.

from people who are obviously happy to answer your broad statement with no proof, yes, you are right. Plus this is a discussion that has appeared many times over the past years, and always gets opinions posted.

unless its a "mainstream/commercial label, not everyone has that mentality you speak of,obv the big boys high up do but music to a huge majority of people is about enjoyment not about making a quick buck.so spare us that excuse.

This is actually the bottom line.

I've had a load to drink tonight so hopefully the following will make sense, I've just thought of this:

Imagine you're a Ferrari enthusiast, you've had a massive passion for their work ever since they started producing sports cars. The reason you had such passion in the first place was because they put in so much hard work and brought loads of originality to an already saturated market which nobody else seemed to bring.
Now imagine a few years later they bring out a very average car to test the waters, to see if it would sell. This car still has some of the things that make Ferrari great, It still has style and character and whatever magic Ferrari has.
Anyway, this car sells bigtime, people still recognise the Ferrari badge and know that it's something special under the bonnet so it's a winner. They've sold more of these cars than any of their previous cars, and made 3X as much profit as they originally did.
So naturally, it's not within their interests to lose money as a company so they start pumping out generic family cars, to increase profits they buy cheaper parts, spend no money developing unique characteristics to their cars and make them appeal to everyone.
That doesn't translate to music dude. Ferrari going from making 300,000 cars to mass producing 50,000 cars for more profit is not the same as the hard wobble bass driven sub genre of dubstep getting more popular then the chill, spacey, sub bass driven sub genre of dubstep.

Let me correct your analogy...ferrari makes 2 different 300,000 car models. One is more popular then the other, so naturally sells more then the other. So naturally that model starts getting recycyled in new ways only furthering it's popularity.

Dont you see what you did with your analogy? YOU spoke on the popular stuff as the 40,000 car...when really thats your OPINION. BOTH FERRARI'S COST THE SAME TO CREATE.

big seller and losing money are two entirely different things

You have to have a bit of mainstream success to be a sustainable label.

Unless you have a benefactor your sales have to meet or beat your costs or your label will not sustain.

wha? You were using money invested into cars as an analogy to time/quality put into music. So when I corrected your analogy I was using the same terms...

Wow did I really just have to explain that to you?

the ones who dont wanna know the roots are the ones who shouldnt, because they wont take any notice...i for one know the roots, i love all kinds of dubstep and make all kinds of dubstep...

how can you define people by the music they listen to? just because they listen to a more energetic form of dubstep doesnt mean they dont know shit about it...theres TONS of people who varie in taste, ive seen my name amongst jack sparrow, loefah, kryptic minds, burial (for other than the obvious jokey reasons)...the fact you sit there and criticise actually makes YOU the ignorant one.

rant over.
