Why is it, that writers can write novels under fake names so that their crime stories would not be associated with their poems,
but brosteppers simply can't risk it? Sadly, because they'd immediately lose the attention they depend on.
Because it was dubstep that gave them fame, and not their actual talent.

just a couple of pages back on this thread Funtcase refused to reveal the alias that he makes deeper tunes under...

You talk about it like it's a century-old tome passed from monk to monk by word of mouth. THIS IS MODERN ELECTRONIC MUSIC.
Err, no I don't. Thanks for the LOWDOWN though, you massive helmet.

Ive read some of this thread and its seriously dumb.

The main issue here seems to be certain people are unsure what dubstep actually is (its a very loose term anyways, but there have to be some boundaries to it) and also think that by labelling some as dubstep (even if it isnt) it will get them more popular.

These are the problems with dubstep these days. People are trying to jump on bandwagons, use the name for hype, make money all before the more important aspect of actually making good dubstep music and letting the music do the talking!! If your making a track at the same BPM as drum & bass then call it drum & bass, it may have elements of dubstep and dubstep influences but this doesnt make it dubstep. IMO OP is battling a losing arguement, theres alot of contradiciton and naivety in his posts. In his defence maybe he isnt aware of all the elements that make up dubstep, and is new to the genre, people have to learn and cant always be at the top of the class straight away, but he is not understanding peoples arguments or accepting other people opinions.

On topic, people dont dislike mainstream, people dislike the stuff that is currently representing dubstep in the mainstream.

You fail at quoting and your opinion is wrong because you've probably heard one song.

BPM doesn't define a genre. You guys use these technical things to define your genre (which in result keeps your genre in a box, which seems to be where you like it), i use the way the music SOUNDS to me. For example the system of a down remix in my sig is drum n bass tempo when double timed...but it doesn't sound anything like drum n bass. It sounds like a hip hop, metal, dubstep fusion. There's really no drum n bass influence in the track.

But really, when I made this topic... It became kind of a brostep vs. dubstep or a mislabeling of dubstep or what have you. Thats not originally what i even meant out the gate. The original topic is supposed to be why a lot of dubstep fans seem to be anti-mainstream in general

Because most of Mainstream = Brostep ? Like I asked before what is mainstream for you ? Skream & Benga ? If yes then there's very few people actually hating on them. Modestep ? If yes then sorry to tell you but it's just typical brostep.

for example, a lot of people seem to not like the idea of mainstream rappers getting on dubstep (or rappers at all for that matter), frown upon heavy metal remixes with there beloved dubstep. frown upon a sub genre of dubstep getting widely recognized entirely. It's like many of you frown upon any type of progressive evolution your precious dub step is going through. Especially when it's being combined with mainstream (brittany spears just did a track with dubstep in it etc.). All these things are GREAT to me, it's so surprising to see many true dubstep fans all butt hurt about it.

I understand many of you are more into the downbeat subby, spacey dubstep sound and thats fine. I like that shit too. But naturally the more up beat sup genre's of dubstep are going to get more popular then the down beat dubstep. Up beat music is more popular then down beat music in general. To be mad about that though is strange to me. Many of you are like Amish people, wanna keep everything the old ways and never change it...even if the new stuff is what's catching on to the masses...

dude, really...Brostep is NOT mainstream. Not in the u.s. anyway. Getting more popular? Yes. but MAINSTREAM? No. 999 people out of 1,000 dont know who the fuck skream is. So thats definitely not mainstream. This is an example of MAINSTREAM DUBSTEP...

listen to 2:19 . That is an example of dubstep, brostep or what ever the fuck step going into the mainstream

I don't think anybody here is saying "Don't make brostep/tearout/"upbeat"/whatever", some people JUST DON'T LIKE IT and no amount of calling those that don't like it "haterz" will get people to like it.

Jeez, will you stop if we all reject "downbeat subby, spacey dub-step" and admit that secretely, we all love Modestep, we're just trying to hard to look cool? :u:

WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM US? YOU MANIAC! YOU BLEW IT UP! DAMN YOU! GOD DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!
