why are you religious/of a faith?

Post by deadly_habit » Tue Feb 08, 2011 9:21 pm

just curious as i think it's worth discussing
are you of a faith because you were born into it?
or did you discover it on your own and come to believe?

want to know why one of the plagues of the world (religion) is so prevalent

Bass-Hertz?

I follow some Buddhist ideologies because I've been raised in a Buddhist family for the past 20 years and picked up on it. I meditate with my father when I'm at home, and do bits of readings on it. The reason I do follow it, however, is because it rejects so many of the ideologies which make other religions so dangerous. Either way, I think that I only really pick up the technical side of it - the calming of your mind and the philosophies of impermanence and so on. When it gets more mystical - flowing energies and so forth - which my parents do believe in to a TINY extent, I draw the line.

Shitstorm commence

All religions/cults/whatevers have valuable teachings, shame you have to dig through all the crap to get there.
Maybe its a sign that god came first, religions came long after

Baptised a Roman Catholic, grew up to be agnostic.
Although i'll probably baptize my children, marry in church, it's just a cultural thing.

buddhism is more of a lifestyle than a faith imo
the meditation techniques alone are great

Just because you are a character, does not mean you have character.

I have tried to mediate but I can't, I keep getting distracted by stupid stuff. From my balls to the clock being a minute fast.

imo religion is an excuse for moral codes that humans naturally have
and they tend to do more harm than good with their doctine as humanity progresses and the teaching don't

way to not load your question :cornlol:

what are the odds someone would read that and answer rationally instead of defensively? calling their beliefs evil doesnt help discussion

My mate has a quote of me on her blog on Buddhism, bare in mind I was canny wrecked and tired at the time :D

‎''Well I don't want to become a buddhist because it's a load of shite but I love the philosophical thinking and all that shit that is behind it, it's good shit, you should check that shit out''

Said in in all sincerity too :?
