I don't see the point in making a live dubstep band.

It sounds horrible and unnecessary in most cases, at least in my opinion.

i'm sorry but this is such a retarded opinion, i don't know if you're into watching bands but they can be so much more engaging and fun to watch than a dj playing records, you can't beat the live sound which bands bring to the table aswell, i've been to gigs where a band has played before the headline dj and imo it should have been the other way round because the sound quality dropped significantly when the dj started spinning

I study percussion on a university level and play in a band, so I kinda know what a band means. I definitely agree that there are a lot of bands out there that deserve more support and recognition than they get, and I don't even have to start explaining how difficult it is for a band to sound at least decent. But with all that said, I also believe a lot of electronic music simply does not need live interpretation in that way because it's simply not necessary (I encountered a lot of cases when real percussion was recorded for minimal techno/dubstep purpuses, 99% of the time it made no addition to the overall sound, it even made the tracks sound worse)

I guess if you're talking about someone like Modestep then I agree that there's no real point but then again if you ask me I think they should just disappear. I think bands like Submotion Orchestra, Gentleman's Dub Club and Engine Earz on the other hand are going in a interesting direction and live instruments are an integral part of what they are doing, I mean you can't say a live horn section would sound worse than midi horns for example and as they're bringing elements of jazz, dub and eastern music into the dubstep framework i would argue that its necessary for them to do it with real instruments.

here's a few tracks that use real instruments and i think they definitely add to the tracks rather than make them sound worse:

Both points seconded, mount kimbie every time iv caught um it has been live! in many senses of that word.

i think the point made is fine in terms of opinion, but still a pretty musically ignorant comment.

Peace.
