I'm starting to wish I only wrote 10% of the track I wrote, then looped it for 4 minutesparavrais wrote:It seems once again having nothing but bare drums and a sub bass is to win over more complex melodic ideas or production skills :\

hope that doesn't give anything away

Re: DSF SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION-29
Have to say, in general the quality of the tunes in this comp has been quite high and although the voting hasn't gone exactly how I thought it would, generally I can see why everything is where it is and the tunes with lots of votes are all the ones that deserve it...except...I don't understan how lo-fi mind snuck in there O.o No offense to whoever made it but it feels VERY generic to me, hardly anything going on and the use of the vocals is really poor. It seems to be getting lots of votes just because it's a burial clone and it's 'cool' to like burial

Hey guys,
I didn't get my track in on time either, but thought I woul d post it anyways. Go ahead and rip it up if you want. It's my first attempt (ever) at creating an electronic music track. Helpful criticism is always appreciated. check it out:

its not actually finished either, and I didn't have time to even begin learning mastering, EQing and a whole load of different stuff, so... yah, it kinda blows, but im coming along..

and kick on 1 and snare on 3 is cool?
no need to be jealous, this is only simple comp where we all
show what we like to write etc...

Re: DSF SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION-29
Glad that organism is fighting its way up there. Clear winner, IMO. I imagine this is kinda what burial would sound like if he grew up in chicago. Or something. Samples are delicious. Would love to hear maybe some chop-n-edit action on that vinyl sample.
The mix may be shit, but evolution waaangs! 1st half is ridiculous. Real talk. Ending's a little weird just cause of the vocal chop, plenty of cleaning to do there methinks. Also don't like that "bark" sample or whatever at all. But that reverse kick thing just makes that beat groove, man. Tellin you dude, polish this shit. Track is class.
Briancore is a great idea, almost all of the elements in there are lovely. The vocal edits are a bit off especially when you first introduce it, and the wobble is a bit unnecessary or at least should be done a bit differently IMO. I think the mood of the track warrants a little more silence & space than it currently has.
Might give more feedback after the voting is done...

Don't get offended mate, I just give my honest opinions on here. It's got nothing to do with being jealous XD If I'm jealous of someone's track then I'll give it *positive* feedback.
Evolution, Organism, Without You are all great tracks and I'd happily say I'm jealous I didn't write them. I actually didn't give Organism a vote and now I'm really wishing I did. It's grown on me.
Lo-Fi Mind though...it just sounds horrible to me. The drums are far too out of time and the vocal doesn't fit in the mix properly. None of the transitions really work and musically it's just bland. If it were in the feedback threads I'd say the exact same thing. If you can't take honest feedback then I wouldn't ever read my posts cos I don't mince my words lol.
EDIT: And no, why do people always assume because you slammed a song that was trying to be 'alternative' that you listen to run of the mill kick snare brostep O.o I'd say the opposite. BECAUSE I'm such a massive fan of burial and stripped down garage I can't enjoy this song. It's probably the kick snarers that are giving it all the votes

Re: DSF SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION-29
Seeings as I'm not a COMPLETE bastard here's some feedback on the tunes I actually like in this comp.
Evolution: The mixdown might leave ah, something to be desired. The musical and creative elements of the tune however are the best in the competition. God knows how some of the sounds towards the end were made with that pack and the chopping of that violin sample is perfect. Gets me every time I listen to it. Don't really understand why there's so much distortion as whoever made it clearly knows how to produce.
Optimum: Really lush mixdown. Bit sparse but very enjoyable. The percussion and padwork are what really makes it stand out IMO. The funky lead synth is pretty cool too.
Organism: Only just got into this one but it's solid as fuck. Good mixdown, great jazzy lines on the keys. Bass sits just right carry the whole thing along. Bit short though, could have done with some more variations and a longer length!
Without You: Clearly a controversial track. Personally I think it's awesome. Mixdown might not be the best out of the tracks in the comp but musically it's very enjoyable and the fact they actually managed to make those vocal samples sound good to me is no easy feat. Love the percussion and the bassline is funky as. When it really gets going and hits that crescendo with the call and answer vocals it's magic. Love the lead synth type thing in the breakdown too. Really builds the tension up!!

I didn't vote for it but I quite like it, whereas Without You sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks to me. Why can't we all be happy?paravrais wrote:virks wrote:paravrais wrote:Have to say, in general the quality of the tunes in this comp has been quite high and although the voting y

Re: DSF SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION-29
Organism: Has one of the best atmospheres of this comp. The synth and bass groove.. but the drums are just off. Could be a powerful song, just needs work in the riddim section.
Without You: The track I thought would win from the getgo. Most original of all the vocal samples.
Optimum: All the songs were kinda blending together in my head when I first listened to this, so I guess I overlooked it. Listening to it again, its pretty sick. The progression is really interesting too.
Briancore: The bg strings are dope and so is the bass (some varying rhythms in the wobbles would be nice tho). I didn't like the vocal sample, it needs more cutting and editting to actually fit in with the song.
There were lots of other goodies I didn't mention. A lot of the ideas were really good, but underdeveloped. Nice work erryone
and all this talk of burial and songs that sound like burial are making me want to just straight listen to burial. So I will

Re: DSF SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION-29
The other day I was waiting for something, and this song just came in to my mind. I didn't know what it was at first it was just the paino bit, then that vocal came to mind, and I was like oh shit it's that track. So it's definitely rememberable, maybe it could grow on me with a few more listen.FluidMoShun wrote:The vox were my favorite part in that track.. I don't understand you man3za wrote: WITHOUT YOU Intro is dope, I was thinking James Blake was going to start singing, and ruin though, but he didn't, that bloody vocal sample did againThe way you pitched it up made it even worst for me, you drop that sample, and this might be a ill track... I liked the first 45 seconds, and the break down.
to each their own I spose haha

If so;
1. I did not enter.
2. I ain't slating anyone, just giving my honest opinion.
3. I can see where your coming from with that the voting is still going, but I don't think my opinion would influence anyones voting, and if it did they are a sheep.
If that was not aimed at me forget I posted.
Peace.
