Great night!
Really good to see Joe Nice - really infectious enthusiasm and that awesome new Pinch tune that got pulled back three times...
Was a bit weird at first upstairs but Youngsta killed it in his own unique style - some Big new tunes from Skream - Vex'd dropping "it's war" - fucking great.
Really nice to catch up with Appleblim, Peverelist, all Bristol and Bath crew....
How about keeping DMZ at 3rd bass but going weekly!!!

What a night... After 3 days travelling back and down the M1 for all 3 nights, DMZ certainly finished it off a treat..

How many sick tunes were dropped? Everyone smashed it, got to see half of Joe Nice (awesome set mate) before the move into mass..
Personally I prefer 3rd Bass, better system and bit cosier, but it wouldn't have been right making so many people miss out on the night..

Once in mass tho, after a lot of system tweaking everyone seemed to let loose and continue skanking... I just couldn't believe how busy it was..

Everyone smashed it, but I think Vex'd or Skream done it for me... Youngsta's set was big but I had seen him at Fwd on Thursday... Only bit that started to annoy me was how many rewinds there was.. Like being at Fabric again, but far too many good points to let that get to ya..

Big up's everyone I met, old and new faces, you know who you are.. Still so many peeps i didn't get to speak too.. oh well next time, Looking fwd to the next one already...

All right Duck, good ta meet you at last, and do I owe you one bigtime for getting me into the Dubstep

I used to think of it as a virus but I'm increasingly seeing it as a form of Voodoo, and Vex'd at the end was like the icing on the cake for me :)

And a BIG thanks for whoever suggested and got it moved upstairs, would have been bloody tough to have missed that.

My First visit to DMZ. Absolutely wicked. 3rd Base is a wicked venue aswell, hope DMZ hold a few more in here before they outgrow the venue totally... if so though keep it in South London!

Managed to hear Joe Nice (set of the night for me easily), Youngsta, Skream and DMZ (also wicked). Shall definately be returning in May... only bad point of the night getting the car broken into, but thats Brixton sometimes.

goodness me....

in the immortal words of Kiss:

"crayzeee crayzeee crayzeee CRAAYYYZZEEEE NIIIIGHT!"

pure madness....it was like watching a scene grow in front of your eyes!

great moments:

Ruff Beats/Ruffage by Loefah getting dropped 5 times, and STILL sounding MASSIVE....in fact, by the time Vex'd dropped it, the system was firing on all cylinders, and mebbe it was a fresher dubplate, coz it suddenly sounded cripser fatter and bigger than ever!

the place went off! what a tune....judging the response it KEPT getting, i wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be on DMZ #8...

Deep Concentraion by Skream: another tune that stood up to the 5 or 6 plays it got! absolute skanker....the place lifted up everytime it dropped...

Joe Nice's facial expressions! The guy is a total performer! The way he'd indicate a bassline about to come in, or the licking of the fingers b4 he started in the mix, or the mopping of the brow with the towel! classic....
what a set....PERFECT warm up, and even though he was dropping bomb after bomb, it was really well built up...bare new tunes from the likes of Scuba (who's rifftastic new tune featuring chugging metal guitar was a surprise hit!), Pinch ('Punisher'? abolute merkle tune!), and even a wicked US dubstep tune by Mouldy....one to watch out for....by the time he dropped Mark One's new R&B cut-up classic, he had the place eating out of his hand....

and then the move! fair play to DMZ for making a brave decision, and sorting out the people queing outside in the cold...i heard reports of the queue stretching all the way to the road, round the park outside Mass...which is long way!

Youngsta's set....utterly deep, and some amazing new D1 and Skream tunes...but the system just wasn't tweaked yet....shame as his mixing as usual was like a machine!

Skream's set brought it up with some sure fire winners, Lightning and Request Line drawing an ecstatic response from the crowd, who were by now all leaning over the railings going mental! His mix of Sunship's Almighty Father was another highlight, which again proved that vocals can work in this environment...tune of his set, and one of the tunes of the night, was a crazy multi switching beast that starts with a reggae'ska sample, moves thru standard skream skank, then switches into some crazy 4x4 type ish! any help on that one?

Mala & Loe continued the onslaught with a stupid selection, with Mala's 4x4 stuff getting a huge response from the ravers...the newly released Haunted by Coki caused a massive shock-out too, which it has ever since it first dropped on plate at the 2nd DMZ...back 2 back the bombs just kept dropping! too many tunes.....

By the time Vex'd were dropping their own cuts like 3rd Choice, and a new beat by DJ Tubby that people loved, the system was in full effect...great to see Daddi Gee's face light up with pride as his and kode 9s 'backwards' got dropped - a skanked out masterpiece that i believe is on the flip of kode 9s next release....pleased to find that some of the lyrics that i really like off the Dubstep Allstars cd are off this tune too...anyone know if its a cover again like the others? wicked lyrics, proper dub poetry...

Vex'ds remix of Toasty's Knowledge hit like a hammer too! place went wild! i had been underwhelmed by it on initial home listening, but i eat my words...its an absolute killer! if u don't own the Hotflush remix 12 yet then go and buy on sight....Vex'd had the sense to drop Loefah's mix of Candyfloss by Search & Destroy too....couldn't believe no one else had, and man, the place went nuts!

Great to see Prior and Lohan of S&D bopping like madmen when Vex'd dropped thier remix of S&D's 'wavescape'...hard as nails...BIG TUNE! lets hope it sees light of day soon...

Unfortunately by the time Chef came on i was utterly knackered and had to go out and flyer, but by all accounts he merked as usual! i was even bopping to the b-lines outside in the snow! extra points to Chef for the clip on tie he was rocking too....next time i expect to see him and Skream in full top hat and tails...!

Big up everyone who was there...totally unique vibes....proper oldskool rave vibes....big up all the people i met for the first time too Boomnoise, Secret Agent Jel, Atomly, Dave Q, Luke Envoy...the list goes on!

But most of all big up DMZ for a historic night....the scene is changing again and once again they are out there pushing it as far as they can....

Fucking hell... :D

Don't think I can say anything new.. but it really is the end of an era. I said that to pokes in a stoned stupor at the end of the night, and he just seemed blown away. Had no idea what was going to happen next :D A truly momentous occasion. just big up anyone I met, anyone who stayed till late - Distinction, bracket, n-type, kode 9, breaker, logos, distance, pokes, pangea... shame I didn't get to meet any of the out of town crew, but everyone contributed to the vibe in there.

Wonder what the Mystikz and Loe will decide to do now. I reckon staying at 3rd Bass would be pretty nice - this is nothing negative, but I don't think the next one will have such a massive turn out. This one was the first birthday, and the first dance after Dubstep Warz, had been plugged everywhere from the Breezeblock to Boomkats newsletter, and a lot of people travelled FAR who won't necessarily be able to do so again for the next ones (big up you guys by the way).
