Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for February, 2011
@FluidMoShun You have some nice rich sounds and it sounds good so far, I would say maybe take your time a little getting into it though
@NICORISONE Nice ambience, it needs something over the top of it to take it to the next level though but you probably already knew that, good beat and bass sounds though
@KidQw3rty Cool fat sound, gets a little crash heavy for my taste
Started working on this two nights ago, haven't done any mixing or mastering whatsoever

@fluid I will leave feedback. but at the moment I'm only on my phone with no headphones. I want to be able to hear everything properly. so I will give your work and others a listen tomorrow!
@oprs I know you wasn't trying to be a dick. I was just asking where was your advice?! anyway I've browsed your soundcloud and listened to your songs and I love the sound you have! do what advice would you have to get a better sound. I use Reason 5 btw

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for February, 2011
i guess since i've recently come out of the woodwork, i may as well start getting opinions about how ive interpreted all the info ive been accumulating from here. you cant hide forever and expect to get better i suppose, but first feedback.
Deniss1: Really digging how big those intro pads are sounding, dont know if those are only your WIP drums but im in agreement with debaser1 on the drums not really fitting with how hard everything else is hitting.
The Other Drug: Good start, but to me the drums and hats could use a little bit a variety. maybe add some other percussive hits or blips here and there throughout for the listener to grab onto while the drums progress and change up a bit
Xephex: The drums are definitely being buried. Dont know it this what you were going for, but it sounds rather empty in the parts between the main "verse" sections, it sounds like there maybe an underlying sub or pad being buried or it could be possible that my sub doesnt handle the frequencies youre playing.
Trying to learn everything at once has been a bit overwhelming, so i decided to break it up into sections, first working on my drum technique/processing/sounds. its getting there, hopefully, but my monitor situation isnt the best, an Apogee ONE interface to either my budget skull candy ear buds or my tv's budget surround system
so any insight into how it sounds from something a bit better is appreciated and any tips, trick or hints are always helpful.

Basically just drums and a little creepy feeding-back synth thing that i made while messing about that i thought was cool

@iamepoch
I think it can turn out to something nice, let us hear more so there is more material to judge over, but I like the sound of the kickdrum and the idea of it. Make something out of it man :].

fluidmoshun:
that phasy, wobbly, atmospherish thingie is really nice! The drum pattern is also pretty sweet! The kick is abit low in the mix I think, and the snare could also be slightly louder (on these monitors atleast). Chill tune!
Krispies:
Nice piece of work. I love all the details with the lazers and that. That intro is sick, maybe a tad bit too long buildup, but nice nonetheless. Was a bit dissapointed with the drop, hoping for some more crazyness and crisper sound. But nice tune!
iamepoch:
I like the idea of it. The sounds are a bit so-so, specially the snare but the structure sounds good! Try adding some hi-hats to play around with the rythm.

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for February, 2011
@FRasch thanks for the feedback, I know the intro is too long (unless I want to make the song into a longer mix where it's more.. proportional.. but I don't have plans for that yet) and I think the reason it doesn't sound crazy/crisp right now is because there's so much going on that until I mix it better it's just going to sound bland and muddy, but hopefully it'll hit harder once the right parts become more prominent

Nicklewound: what i posted was half of what i have, but its essentially all ive got so far. im working on making something of it, im just notoriously slow at writing right now because im isolating learning how to create the different parts, this being what i was happy with after working out a drum processing technique, how to EQ, getting parallel distortion/compression down, ect...
FRasch: what do you mean by so-so? the samples being not great? Generic sounding? Or just my overall processing sound? If you could be more specific it will help me narrow down what i need to work on. Hats were definitely next on the list, just needed to find some that catch my fancy

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for February, 2011
krispies: Liked this, good mix up of sounds to keep it interesting and the didgidoo bass is cool. The drop is ok, too much happening for my liking, i prefer a more simple drop. A good mixdown might help with regards to that though
iamepoch: Love the 80s scifi vibe to this. Not much I can point out wrong about this one, would make an awesome intro if its properly built upon
nibzdub: Its a decent arrangment but the sounds are all a bit crappy. The slowing down midrangy bass is cool, id prefer it with a bit mroe presense though.
annndddd.... i just realised the tune i was going to post is not dubstep so I'll leave this as friendly feedback

I like that bass drum and snare is hard, but I need to hear more before I can give any feedback
Krispies
Wooa man, watch those high frequencies, my ears seriously nearly was going to bleed at the intro. The overall mixing sounds too compressed in my opinion and becomes muddy. Remove whatever you have on your master channel, it will give you a cleaner sound, but you will need to mix every channel itself.
My wip I made today

Actually, on a second listen, that kick drum is pretty sweet. It's just the snare I am not feeling, but other people here seem to like it so it's most likely just a matter of tasteiamepoch wrote: FRasch: what do you mean by so-so? the samples being not great? @ ill tune, badass drop, really good stuff
@ really catchy synths, and those robotic wobbles work really well, like it
@ juan killer drop, nice switch up, cant really say i like that voice sample
@ nibzdub mellow deep tune, i like, but you could increase the overall volume a bit, i can hardly hear it
A new track i made, its kinda finished but i`m still open for sugestions:

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for February, 2011
@juan - Sounding cool man. I like your sounds and structure post-drop. I think the actual drop is a little messy though. The four kicks right before it are a bit weird and out of place. I prefer the second drop way more. The new synth sounds are awesome and bassy
Keep working man, great stuff.
@cryokinesis - Nice drop. Your synths could be a little less harsh. It's be a lot nicer and chilled. Maybe that's not what you're going for. I also think that the overall track needs a lot more development. It's pretty samey throughout and gets kinda boring. The switch-up at the end could come a little earlier, but you should also try throwing in some different sounds.
@MRP5 - I've left a couple Soundcloud comments. Awesome track man, I love it. Kinda think it's done, but I could be wrong. Sorry I can't be more helpful
@thor_beatz - Amazing sounds, great production, awesome minimalist percussion. You really need to post 3 pieces of feedback like the first post says though. I'd love some tips on how to get resampled bass sounding like that man.
The idea for this track is stolen from something I did last summer, when I was really shit
Hope you like it.

@jakedubber - i love the intro sample, i think it could drop a bit harder but that's just preference. i like the melody though, its really nice.
@cryokinesis - really liking the bass in this, only suggestion i have would be switching it up a bit, its a little samey.
@nibzdub - listened to this when it came on my dashboard but i'll give you some feedback here. its quite chilled, not normally the kinda thing i listen to but i like it, maybe turn up the intro though, can hardly hear a thing.
here's something i was messing about with earlier, the drums are not final at all, just a loop i had that i put there to give me an idea of how it'd go with drums. no mastering/mixing at all yet but i dont know what to do with this bass from afer this point, hoping someone can give me some ideas because i dont wanna scap the whole idea with these sounds!

@ninthy4 Lovely track dude. Love the build up and the drop is quality. Very evil
@MRP5 Really like the intro and it builds nicely. The bassline is nice. Like the piano and the bass together.
@juan Whats the sample. Lovely drop. Love the scratch sample. The snare is lovely too.
Heres a track I'm working on atm. Please comment my soundcloud if you can. Cheers
