Beatmatching tracks pre-gig using audio editing software
Beatmatching tracks pre-gig using audio editing software
Obviously this only works with pre-planned sets. The idea is to set all your tracks to the correct bpm beforehand so you can spend less time beatmatching/adjusting pitch & have faster, more precise cuts.
My concerns are loss of quality through the conversion process & the time it takes & method by which to actually figure out exactly by what percentage to extend or shorten a track.
Currently I'm setting the track to the desired speed in Trakor, timing & writing down the new length of the song, then time-stretching the song to the new length using Sound Forge. The whole process takes quite a while to process each track & I'm thinking that there must be an easier/more reliable way to do this.
Any of you djs out there done something like this before who can give me tips?

Re: Beatmatching tracks pre-gig using audio editing software
hahaha, if you're using traktor anyway, why don't sync the tracks BPM's while you mix them? It's just one click of the mouse?
What you are doing sounds plain stupid, no offence.

Re: Beatmatching tracks pre-gig using audio editing software
What is experimental about it? Its not new, its lame. For it to be an experiment you would have to be trying something with results which would be unknown. In this case though you already know what the results of your experiment will be. Hate, a serious show of idiocy, and beatmatched tracks. You even said it yourself. You knew what the outcome would be. So no experiment.
And the fact you havent caught on to how it works yet is pretty funny too.
If you can beatmatch, why not do it? Its alot less hassle, looks alot cooler for the audience, the heads who know will respect it...

The whole joy of DJing surely is pulling off a mix after you have worked hard to make sure it all sounds right.
Pre pitching is a total cop out and your a poor excuse for a DJ if you do this

This makes no sense. So you're literally making all your tracks the same bpm?? Why dont you just pre-mix your set too??

how hard is it to beatmatch quickly using traktor especially when the fucking BPM IS RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF YOU
geez, as if using traktor didn't make it easy enough for you mate
vinyl ftw

Re: Beatmatching tracks pre-gig using audio editing software
lol.. lotta hate from the purists. i knew this would be taboo for some but ffs!

I play vinyls too, & I can beatmatch fine. But this is about ultra-precision, getting the tracks absolutely locked. I find with traditional beatmatching I can usually only get the speed to around 0.1% correct, which means I can't run the songs together as long as I would like. This "experiment" is to see if i can eliminate that 0.1% margin & hopefully hold the mix for longer without having to put hands on the record while it's playing

that's bullshit mate

Re: Beatmatching tracks pre-gig using audio editing software
So your mixes are off by 0.14 beats per minute?? You must be going for some seeeeeeerious mixes to worry about that. You'd have to go for over 7minutes of mix for it to be just 1bpm off.
edit:- ok yeah 1bpm doesnt sound alot but would make a major difference to a mix. Buuuuuuuuut i very much doubt your going for 7 min mixes. I'd say a mix would be max 2-3 mins long and that less than half a beat which you could easily adjust with the pitch control.

Re: Beatmatching tracks pre-gig using audio editing software
Let the guy do what he wants, there are no laws for DJ'ing, only that your mixing and selection is on point. Having said that, seems like a long arsed way of going about things mate. BPM sync on traktor gets each tune perfectly in time, so don't really know what the 0.1 business you mention is about?

Re: Beatmatching tracks pre-gig using audio editing software
you're right it is a long arsed way of doin it, that's y i'm asking if anyone else done something similar & got results.
I don't use auto-sync & i try not to use bpm analysis on traktor as it's often fail

Re: Beatmatching tracks pre-gig using audio editing software
With all the negative comments on here about pre-beat matched tunes, I wonder how many people look at certain DJs using the pitch when mixing.
I bet you a lot of your favorites who use CD's definitely don't.
