[quote="ASimpleMindUK"]@NICORISONE
Actual Dubstep Track: Not bad, sounds like you need to put a bit more work in on the synth sounds though, they sound pretty much default. The drop comes in a bit randomly. Create a bit of atmos before the drop. White noise maybe?

@melodium747
Parts of the percussion are well put together, but when bass comes in it sounds quite confused up until 1 minute in. Shaker seems to be the only thing that stands out. Try thickening the snare and kick sound and tone down on the shaker. Cool track though.

@krucial
Production is really well done, but during the intro, hold back on the bass a bit, so when it drops, it's more of an impact. Other than that, sounds quality.
We've finished these two tracks today, what do you think?

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind next time. Imma probably work on a new one tonight If I have the time.

@steeple - thanks for the crit but would you mind telling me WHY its bad or maybe some things i could work on instead of just 'not feelin it' that would help alot more.
as for your track the drums seem to be mixed nicely and i enjoy the simple melody and relaxed vibe. if i had to add anything maybe add a bit more sub or something else to make the drop stand out a bit more and then go back into a breakdown or something but sounds great so far man
@krucial - wow really nice sounding; well produced! everything sounds nice and crisp especially the drums and i really like the wierd synth sound you add at around 2:05 the whole song is really dreamy sounding. i honestly cannot think of anything to add sorry it sounds nice :)

@melodium747 - drums sound well mixed and crisp and all but there doesnt seem to be a steady beat i can nod my head to it seems sporatic and glitchy in an odd way, maybe try working on a catchier beat. the wobble sounds nice but maybe drop it in a little less randomly. the hihats get to be a little too much after a while IMO but your on the right track. try resampling your bass and cutting it up to match the beat better it will give your track more of a solid groove

@nicorisone - great sounding intro although it drops in kind of oddly maybe try a drum roll or some sort of sweep to make it sound nicer. the bass itself doesnt sound bad but it sounds like a clip from later in the song for some reason. try to work on the end of the buildup and the impact of the drop and melody. sounds good so far either way though keep it up

@ASimpleMindUK - your tracks are realy nice dude everything seems to fit well and your bass on troll ritual is ace i love how it switches up how it sounds so much it keeps me interested. any tips on variating basses for me to take home? :| as for criticism maybe add in another sound on the second drop or something? im not sure though it sounds good to me. and maybe add something in the buildup to make the first drop stand out a little more. i like the way the bass roll sin for the second drop good work

So I think I got something now. Someone mentioned my sub bass being out which at first was intentional. However, I realized it was too dissonant to make a proper song and so I think I wiggled around enough to still get weird but make it work. I dunno. Thanks for all the help, I don't mean to be a naggin' ned and all. Just want a decent first song out of myself and such.

Damn... alot of pro stuff here.

Dreadfunk:
The song is crazy nice, the production is crazy nice. Sick stuff! Only thing I don't like is the rythm of the melody where Bowser Johnston pointed out that it got a little corny. I think it could be even sicker if you altered and tweaked that melody a bit.
Kushmane:
The intro is just awesome, that melody is insanely cool. But, that buildup noise that is out of tune is killing my ears, both with its high fq and its outoftunedness. Cool groove going after the drop :)
Johsnt:
Sick tune! :) Really cool style you got going.
Biggls:
Really chill and laidback vibe. Don't know what else to say about that tune really, other than I liked it.
mindcontrol:
Amazingly nice glitchy percussion and chill groove. Would be nice to hear more.
nibzdub:
I think it's awesome. Could've listened to it for ages. Good job :)
Steeple:
Cool style. The synths are a bit miami vice'ish, which was pretty cool. Fits in good with the tune I think.
Krucial:
Would love to dl it. Awesome tune. Not much else to say about that, really.
melodium747:
The part from 0:00 to 0:58 is a mess. The drums are offbeat in all the wrong ways. And the bassline sounds like a cat walking on a keyboard. But the part after the drop was alot nicer :)..and the shaker is mixed abit loud I think.
NICORISONE:
Amazing percussion on this one. Really nice tune. The arrangement is as good as it gets I think, the melodies are sweet but the lead melody synth sound could be better.
ASimpleMindUK:
Troll alley ritual - Is that played on a real drum kit? Cool drums. Nice arrangement as well. And cool wobbly sounds. Liked it.
thekeeftheef:
Cool use of that vocal sample. The melody is also nice. I dont like the part that comes in at 1.40'ish, but nice that there is some variation there at least. The rythm at the end is groovy :)
b_rooks:
Really deep. you got some nice atmospherish sounds in there as well as percussion. I think it needs some more variation cause it gets a bit repetitive but that might just be my taste. I think it sounds good and crisp tho :)

This is what I'm working on at the time of being. Was thinking I'd work on the transition into the drop next, but would be great to hear some pointers and tips on where to go with it.

Yeah for the track that I made I tried using my apc40 without quantizing so that the sound would play immediately after pushing a button...I'll never do that (well at least until I get better) but I'm working on a new track now that I plan on working on for while so I can get some more practice, get better beats, etc. I don't know why I posted up the track in the first place..it sucks haha but whatever gotta start somewhere.

@ FRasch - Very VERY cool! Really digged it, except from 1:50 to 2:32. But man that melody was great.

@ Astral - Really nice panning, adds a lot to the track. Good melody too. Maybe it's too straightforward?

Here's mine, I'd like lots of feedback.

@b_brooks: I like the minimal vibe, but nothing much really changes, feels like once you've heard the first 30 seconds you've heard it all, try mixing things up a bit.

Frasch: Again, good sounds, "first"intro drags a bit and dosnt feel like it evolves into anything new, and that tail on the kick has to go. Definitely a good wip, keep at it. It's quite a abundant in the midrange, try and get something a little lower going on.

ASimpleMindUK: It's agood start, feels like im listening to it through a wall however, perhaps a bit more clarity across the entire spectrum, sharpen things up a bit, the ideas are there they just need working on.

Everything I say is my opinion and subjective

Now heres something I've been working on, alot more minimal that my usual work.

Nicorisone: those samples are extremely well placed man, they add a lot. the small bell/piano line adds a lot. really solid tune, i enjoyed it the whole way, kept my head bobbing. i was thinking that maybe that hi hat in the left of the stereo field could use some more reverb? make it a bit more subtle maybe? also, it might be my headphones, but i would have liked more sub. it’s your tune completely, it’s a suggestion. thanks for the feedback too, i’m not really sure where else to go with it or how else to mess with it but i’ll sure as hell try!

FRasch: great melody! really like the synth for it too. and dude i like the build up to the drop. which a sick drop, btw... well done. i think you just need to continue it! great stuff man. just keep working on making it interesting from there.

Astral: really nice usage of the stereo field. it sounds great in my headphones. nice rhythm to the synths, they all sound good together. i’m having trouble coming up with constructive crit, i’m sorry. if you’re going for a minimalist vibe i couldn’t really suggest anything else to add. maybe the sub isn’t big enough for my taste? hard to say. really great tune, would love a 320 once you’re done if you’re gonna give it out!

fds: at first i felt that the tune was too flat and lacked sparkle, but when it drops the synths sound really nice together. i might use the “yoy” synth a bit less. it’s just a really overdone sound imo, but you’ve done a pretty nice job with making it, i can’t seem to figure it out. ya, my biggest problem is the lack of high end. give it some sparkle and this tune will have a lot more imo, but great start, it’s got some groove and it flows nicely dude.

so i've brought the levels of the drums up, cleaned up the vocals a bit, and tried to make everything mix a bit better in general. there's also slower limiting in the maximizer on the master. any crit in regards to the mix would be appreciated, followed by groove and melody. i'm a bit baked, that might not make sense. tell me what you can. Thanks in advance, and i'll return feedback given! :corndance: :corndance:

Never done this so it's a little nerve-wracking but we'll see what happens. Here's some feedback:

thekeeftheef
The kick drum could do with more punch. In fact the snare sound isn't really to my taste. I like the bass sound though, Up to about 1:20. When it gets kind of heavier, it could do with a bit of tweaking, or standing out more, if you know what I mean. Obviously just my opinion. Overall, the main loop for the first half could do with progressing a little more, perhaps?

Astral
Seriously like it. As others say, if you're going for the minimal sound, you might not need to add much to it really. Like the above track, I'm not a massive fan of the snare sound (maybe I'm just not feeling snares today haha). It's great though, I really like it.

b_brooks
I really like the sample that comes in just before a minute in. The subs are hard to judge with my speakers, but they always tend to sound muddier than they should at those frequencies. One thing I'd say is to change up the beat a bit as it progresses. Like, more. Sounds cool though, quite unique, if a little Burial-esque.

I have a fair few WIPs for Feb, so I'm going to put two up (is that cool? ...). If it's not alright, I'll just take one down. Here goes..

I have posted this before but I want to post it again as I am just very stuck and really want to finish this.

I am personally happy with how everything is until it gets to the transition at 1.15 and when the string comes in it sort of is abrupt i know but I like how it sounds when the sub kicks back in. SOOO if anyone has any ideas how I can make the transition smoother and how I could introduce the new plucked string better let me know! Thanks as always mates :)

@NICORISONE - As I've said before, I fucking love this tune. It's awesome. I really like the plucked string sound and I sort of get what you mean about it being really abrupt. I think it being plucked means it's going to have to be abrupt, but maybe you could try EQing some of the really high frequencies out so it isn't as piercing.

I think when the new guitar (acoustic I think) comes in at the 1.15 bit, it's kinda loud, and it surprised me a bit, maybe if you decreased the volume a little bit, it's great though has a nice relaxed feel like the song in your sig :D

I loved it man, I loved the build up (I guess that's what it would be called) also on the bit at 2.24 (donno what it's called but it repeats throughout the song) I think on those things you could make it a little higher pitch, I prefer it when it's kind of irritating on the ears hearing it, that's just me though :D. And I guess to finish it off you could speed it up a bit or something (Not the drums in the back) but I'm keen to hear the whole thing.

.
Fucking epic. That is all.
EDIT: Listening to it again, you could probably shorten the silence at the end of the song, I personally don't like them.

I also just exported and uploaded my thing I've been working on for a few hours now, I'm just getting to know how to use Fruity Loops and making a drum beat is basically all I've figured out by now. Here it is:
<object height="81" width="100%"> <param name="movie" value="http://player.soundcloud.com/player.swf ... 6"></param> <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param> <embed allowscriptaccess="always" height="81" src="http://player.soundcloud.com/player.swf ... 2F10708206" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="100%"></embed> </object> <span><a href="http://soundcloud.com/squeekey/yea">Yea...</a> by <a href="http://soundcloud.com/squeekey">Squeekey</a></span>
What do you think?
I personally would like to add something dramatic at the end of that, something loud and scratchy like off DubMikey's song but still have no idea how to :( I'll figure it out soon I hope.
this is so dirty i had to switch to porno when my mom walked in
