i don't think it's as cut and shut as that anymore, as the internet age has put a stop to actually having to go down to the dance to hear plates,

Agreed , and listeners seem to think they have a right to have the tunes within 1 week of hearing it on line and get bitchy if lables dont drop it within a month

i can understand that, but isn't the point of a label to RELEASE music, as opposed to smirking at us collectively for 2/3 of a year and then calling us impatient?

Take into account that a lot of the very fresh tunes you hear aren't finished , they have to be finished and signed and then the have to fit into an existing release schedule , then you have to allow for artwork , promotion , mastering , checking test presses , pressing , waiting for a release slot with the distributor, and all this takes money which at some point people have and some points people don't.
2/3 of a year(8months?) is a very fast turn around for a release ... faster than 90% of the major labels(emi etc) I challenge anyone who doesn't run a label to get a tune from the day its made to the shops on vinyl in under 5months

p.s I seriously doubt that the people who signed the tunes are sitting behind pcs 'smirking' at impatient dsf users.
