your favorite filters

next month i'm planning to waste my paycheck on production, and i've come to the conclusion that there's really no point in buying yet another softsynth or samplepack, instead i'm aiming for nice useful fx units.
now i've already decided to get myself the PSP vintage warmer for compression and schaak's transient shaper (*coughcough reso and icicle's masterclass vids *cough).
that means i have about 200€ left to spend and i'm in need of good filters (not as in simple LP/HP but more the type you use for classic reese sounds).

my first thought would be tone2's bifilter as it seems to be pretty much an all in one plugin, but i'm curious what your favorites are.

I like sugarbytes Wow filter. Sugarbytes has a pretty good pack of various fx vsts that you can buy

Cable Guys FilterShaper 2 is great, and is well in budget @ €49
FabFilter Volcano 2 is even better, and is well in budget @ €99
Quad Frohmage aint tried it but heard good thing, and is €79 (i used the free vesion, and is sounds good)

Just grab some demos, and see what you like

I personally use Filtershaper 2, and Reaktor for most of my filter needs.

volcano looks like a complex beast when it comes to modulation, what filter types is it capable of? just the classic HP/LP/BP/Notch?

i'll give my reaktor library another look tomorrow, i've never bothered using the fx so far (mainly because reaktor takes ages to start when i load it into a channel as an fx unit), can you reccomend any filters in particular?

EDIT: filtershaper looks interesting, i wonder if you can modulate other plugins with it

antares filter is good, wicked notch filter on that
theres a tone2 one, bifilter maybe, thats good too - some cool modes etc in that

what's that filter (?) on the drums at that breakdown section around 2:00 ? i remember one of these from logic (evoc something?), is it a vocoder or wtf? definetly has some spooky sci-fi vibes.
oh and good to know i'm not the only one doing weird ambient/noise sessions with reaktor
it's endless fun, actually made me consider learning how to do actual noise music (then i got tinnitus from skrewell and quickly discarded that idea )

it becomes apparent when you push the resonance a bit and start sweeping frequencies. to be honest i have no idea what's considered 'good' or 'bad' by actual mastering engineers and other audiophiles but different filters have different characters, and i personally didn't like any of the free filters i tried out with the exception of frohmage, which makes every sound fatter by covering it in molten cheese.

apart from that i guess what made me decide to pay for a filter is having all those fancy filtering modes (comb, vowels n stuff) in one plugin.
(and the fact that i never ever ever figured out atlantis filter. it makes me feel like a monkey and i don't like it when plugins make me feel like a monkey )

sugarbytes WOW. mda bandisto which was recommended to me which is a good distortion unit but use WOW and that and it's a sick combination

It can only benefit our community to have reps of devs around, especially quality devs like cable guys. Jakob is hardly spamming.

Instead, I wonder why none of the other filter devs mentioned aren't posting, maybe because they could give a flying fuck? I have respect for a company that is hustling making sure their product is top notch and that people, real people like you and me, know of their product. More so than some giant that just puts an ad in CM, and calls it a day.

Still haven't found a vst filter that gives me pleasure like a rl analog filter does.

Nitro is pretty serious, it's a LOT more than a filter. Wow for vowel sounds. Volcano for mad trickery, though I think cable guy's filter is easier to work with, is more inspiring. I kind of like volcano I's gui better than volcano II's. I really cannot use fabfilter's stuff with their sliding shapeshifting ui's. Really really annoying. Ohm force is another company with really annoying ui's. I use ohmicide despite it's ui, it's that good, but I can't be f'ed to touch their filter.

I've always heard really good things about bifilter. I know that gladiator has probably the best sounding filters I've ever heard. I will not buy from that guy though.

Just some thoughts.
