Why do y'all have such a hard time understanding that some people have no interest in being in a crowd like that? Raves are fun but it's also okay to not enjoy them..
Also, I have an okay time meeting women in real life... nice to see them in the dance but pretty much the least important part of a club night for me. Drunk girls on stage can be a night ruiner tho...

Of course, but it's so spread out. Every state has at least one city with good weekly club nights, dubstep and otherwise. LA/SF, Miami, NYC, Austin/Houston seem to be standing out in those areas as far as dubstep is concerned. There's more of course, but I'm speaking from personal experience, I haven't been everywhere. I've been to so many dnb and dubstep nights in or around Austin in the last 10 years that were just unforgettable. The DJs from overseas I've chatted with before or after always have great things to say. FWIW, those crazy pseudoraves with extreme lighting definitely aren't the norm. I'm sure most of you guys would feel familiar at most regular club nights.Shum wrote:I am also curious about this.herbalicious wrote:Does the US have a mainstream clubbing culture like we do here?

Re: skrillex concert in austin
Well i didn't really make it past page 5, but it's just classic hipster "i'm cooler than you" shit chattin about how a performance "should be". I mean I love goin to shows that are in someone's dark basement and it's just a bunch of sweaty dudes that just love rockin out to the music, but on the same token a performance is just that: a performance, a show. Michael jackson made some of the best music ever made, but he felt that when thousands of people come to one place to hear it, it should be like a huge celebration with dancers, lights, pyrotechnics, etc.
I mean really, hating on glowsticks? what's wrong with them? is it lame for me to bring them to a show just because they were popular 15 years ago and now they're just not in vogue? Fuckin hell. Maybe I like dancing with them. Maybe I want to jump on stage and move cause that's how the music speaks to me.
eh I could go on but you get the point.

Re: skrillex concert in austin
I thought going to a performance was about being in a great environment, having a great time with complete strangers and not caring about stupid things like the brand that's on my t-shirt or how I like to dance or whatever. I thought this music was about love and acceptance. Apparently not.

exactly. and this is the sad part about this thread. y'all don't even actually have a clue about how we get down in the states, aside from what you've seen in rusko/skrillex/datsik youtube videos.
tonight is a perfect example of the diversity that exists. Skrillex is actually playing tonight in NYC and it's going to be a shit fest. I am not going. I'm going to see Falty DL play for free at a significantly smaller venue with a proper soundsystem. Right up the street is Turrbotax who has Karizma and Martin Kemp. And also on the same street in Brooklyn there's a party with Von D.
So yeah, there's probably gonna be several hundred people at the skrillex show. but that doesnt mean all those other parties won't be dank as fuck
AND that's just the low end bass music parties. there are literally thousands of bars and clubs in NYC, ranging from shitty div e bars to swanky high class 20$/drink clubs with Tiesto type music.
