Resampleing Bass sounds.
Why would you want to resample a bass sound? Outher than to save on cpu.

Re: Resampleing Bass sounds.
because you can create so much more sounds thru the direct processing than a plugin chain!
resample everything!

Re: Resampleing Bass sounds.
You can layer different basses into one to come up with a unique sound.
Re: Resampleing Bass sounds.
Cant you just layer vsts?

Re: Resampleing Bass sounds.
you can't timestretch, chop up or reverse a midi-note.
also resampling a low note and playing that an octave higher would sound different to playing it higher directly in the synth.
edit: resampling has officially become the new 'how do i make datsik/skrillex/borgore bass'

Re: Resampleing Bass sounds.
you can keep layering effects... but when you put on effect on the end of the chain, it doesnt work as nice as wen you resample & then chuck it on there.x-ecutive wrote:what do you mean by "so much more sounds"Sirius wrote:because you can create so much more sounds thru the direct processing than a plugin chain!

It's pretty simple really. When you resample a bass sound, you're capturing a sound that you've created (taking a "photograph" of the sound). With that "photograph", you can fold it in half, fold it in thirds, rip it in half, etc etc etc.
There are things you can do with audio that you cannot do with MIDI -- that is the main reason you resample, aside from CPU benefits.

Re: Resampleing Bass sounds.
I also find that when you resample a bass sound as opposed to sequencing it via midi, the sound is tighter. Way back in the day BT started to hate on midi because from his experience midi notes would be triggered a couple of miliseconds faster or slower which messes with the feel of the track. Ive done similar tests and havent noticed that much of a timing error with my new computer but to my ears resampling sounds better then midi sequencing. Resampling also allows for better modulation as well, pitch bending, reverse, etc. If you ever watch those masterclass or in the studio videos with the pros, they almost always bounce their midi to wave for a more consistent sound. Its extra work that you dont really have to do, but if you spend weeks on a track to make it sound as awesome as possible, this extra step is well worth it.

Next time i paint, Im taking a bunch of pics of it, ripping them up, and glueing them back together, and for that inspiration, i thank you.tylerblue wrote:It's pretty simple really.
