Considering most IQ tests, even "professional" ones, ask pretty much the same kinds of questions, with enough practice you can become pro at them.

IQ changes anyway the more you use your brain the better it becomes.

IQ tests can test the ballpark you're in when it comes to stuff like spatial visualization and problem solving skills and the way you can express those verbally. You can score lower than someone who is less intelligent than you are, but chances are, you're going to be in the same ballpark (often).

They don't take everything into account and they're imperfect (no shit), but that doesn't mean that they don't serve any purpose at all. To dismiss them completely is just silly.

i went to a boarding school for 'gifted' people and i can tell you, IQ tests are a piece of crap. first of all they can vary greatly (up to 20 points difference with the same person tested twice in 7 days was our record, the second result was the lower one btw, she said it was because she had her period) and the only thing they can measure is potential.
the realty is: the classes full of 'gifted' people were a bunch of lazy stoners and nerds, with the occasional braniac autist thrown in for good measure.

so the government wasted roughly half a million €'s on me dropping out of school in 12th grade just because i scored high in some retarded test.

also, asking peoples' IQ is something only douchebags do. in said boarding school there was always a few guys (mostly the ones who were relatively new) who acted like it did matter but those ended up being sad, lonely basement dwellers cursing humanity for not appreciating their brainpower while the rest of us didn't give a fuck and got laid instead

last question: even IF you knew every person's IQ here, what does it matter? do you think the ones with higher scores should be more privileged?

Yeah, I once scored 111 and another time 134, on official IQ tests.

The main problem with IQ tests is that they represent a moment in time, most of all. I think the conditions under which IQ tests are taken are more detrimental than the test itself.

Don't know, don't care to be honest. It's an outdated and inaccurate test.

Obviously people excel at different things - it doesn't make sense to me for spacial awareness, abstract thinking etc. to all be compounded into a single test which doesn't even account for other things such as creativity and any number of other things. What's more is it is awfully elitist.

Surely there is a spectrum of types of creativity, but in my experience, creativity is required to discern the "correct" answer on some of the extremely abstract questions on those tests.

Hardly an apologist for the test, haha, but the two people I know who scored very high on legit iq tests both now hold doctorates. lolz.

I got tested when I was 9-10 I think. Some people drove for 4 hours to test me because I lived in the middle of nowhere. I had never seen any of these iq test style questions before, and I couldnt even do a whole chunk of the test (you were shown two grids with dots on them and had to work out the dots postions in a third) because to my mind it could be very complicated sequences of movement. So was I stupid because I couldnt do a whole section of the test?
